King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals is seeking an Associate or Full Professor in Sequence Stratigraphy. The successful candidate will enhance the department's reputation through research and teaching, contributing to a strong tradition of applied education. King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, College of Petroleum Engineering & Geosciences (CPG), Department of Geosciences invites applications for a faculty position (Associate or Full Professor rank) in the field of Sequence Stratigraphy to begin as early as January 2026. We seek an outstanding individual to enhance the Department’s reputation for cutting-edge research and dedicated teaching.
The Department has a strong tradition and international reputation in applied undergraduate and graduate education, offering accredited B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in geology and geophysics, and an M.S. degree in Environmental Science. KFUPM ranks 7th globally in the 2025 QS World University Rankings by subject category of Minerals and Mining Engineering. The Department has 22 full-time faculty, two lecturers, six post-docs, five supporting staff, and approximately 71 undergraduate majors and 153 graduate students. State-of-the-science analytical facilities are housed in CPG. Programs are enhanced through collaboration with the Department of Petroleum Engineering and other campus departments. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong research program, build an international reputation through publications, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, direct graduate research, and supervise thesis projects.
Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in Sequence Stratigraphy. Demonstrated success in high-quality basic and applied research is essential. Research interests should complement existing campus programs, especially those linking sequence stratigraphy to hydrocarbon system evolution, exploration, and development (conventional and/or unconventional). Strengths in seismic geomorphology, stratigraphic modeling, stratigraphic architecture, basin studies, and outcrop analogs are desirable. Candidates should have a record of successful teaching, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and industry experience is a plus. Applications from qualified female candidates are encouraged.
Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. KFUPM and CPG offer an attractive package including free on-campus housing, fully paid health insurance, dependent education aid, and paid annual repatriation tickets. The contract includes two months of paid summer holiday.
