Job description

The Assistant Head Nurse supports the Head Nurse in managing nursing staff and overseeing daily operations within a healthcare unit or department. This role ensures high standards of patient care, assists in staff supervision, and helps maintain compliance with hospital protocols and health regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Head Nurse in planning, organizing, and supervising nursing services.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to nursing staff during shifts.

  • Monitor patient care standards and ensure safe, compassionate, and effective care.

  • Help coordinate staff schedules, shift coverage, and workload distribution.

  • Support in onboarding, training, and performance evaluation of nursing personnel.

  • Address patient concerns and communicate effectively with patients and families.

  • Ensure adherence to infection control protocols, safety policies, and hospital procedures.

  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in line with hospital regulations.

  • Coordinate with physicians and other healthcare professionals for patient care.

  • Support inventory management of medical supplies and equipment.

Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN); valid nursing license/registration.

  • Minimum 35 years of clinical nursing experience.

  • Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role is preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of healthcare practices, protocols, and patient care standards.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration is an advantage.

  • Specialized training or certifications (e.g., BLS, ACLS, infection control).

  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
