Project Overview
Saudi Arabian Bechtel Company (SABCO) has worked as the management services contractor with the Royal Commission for over 40 years. We manage design, procurement, and construction activities across over 100 projects, including residential communities, iconic buildings, infrastructure, and more.
Job Summary
The Area Safety Engineer reports to the Lead Safety Engineer or the Project ESH Manager. They conduct project-wide ES&H initiatives, support safety reviews, and provide technical support to construction teams and contractors.
Major Responsibilities
- Conduct safety initiatives and assessments across projects, including vehicle inspections, work at height safety, chemical storage, traffic management, environmental inspections, scaffolding, PPE, and excavations.
- Review contractor method statements and risk assessments, and provide safety support during site visits.
- Participate in meetings to advise on safety requirements and recommend procedural improvements.
- Perform safety inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards, regulations, and project requirements, and prepare reports on corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver safety training sessions as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
- At least 5 years of experience in construction or related fields, with a strong understanding of construction safety management.
- Experience in implementing construction ESH management systems.
- NEBOSH or equivalent certification preferred.
- Experience working with contractors to ensure safety standards are met.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials, risk exposures, PPE standards, and safety behavior processes.
- Experience overseeing safety subcontractors or consultants.
- Knowledge of environmental laws, construction methods, and environmental management during construction.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to explain safety standards.
- Ability to prepare and deliver training presentations.
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse, team-oriented environment and influence stakeholders.
- Effective presentation skills for diverse audiences, from workers to senior managers.
