JOB SUMMARY
As an Anatomic & Histopathology Consultant, you will play a critical role in diagnosing diseases through the examination of tissue samples. This position involves analyzing biopsy specimens, conducting autopsies, and providing expert consultations on pathological findings. The Consultant will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure accurate diagnostics and contribute to patient management strategies.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise day to day activities of the Anatomical Pathology section, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted clinical diagnostic services including effective, efficient and safe delivery of laboratory analysis of bodily fluids or tissues for diagnosis of diseases following the established guidelines, laboratory and safety standards, policies and procedures, regulating and accrediting bodies.
- Develop and implement standards operating procedures, laboratory guidelines for Anatomical Pathology services and specimen handling procedures, and quality improvement program to ensure maximum productivity. Act as a first point of contact for all requirements of Anatomical Pathology related laboratories.
- Ensure effectiveness and implementation of quality control program of the Anatomical Pathology section for accuracy, precision and reliability of all test reports.
- Ensure all materials, reagents and consumable supplies are available and utilized in a cost effective manner. Participate in tenders related to Anatomical Pathology section. Monitor the supply use, equipment function and required preventive maintenance.
- Keep an accurate 24-hour output log for the Anatomical Pathology section; record the slide interpretation results, number of examined, screened/rescreened and reviewed slides; prepare monthly workload statistics.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, fire and disaster plan, laboratory health and safety standards, Joint Commission International (JCI) standards, College of American Pathology (CAP) standards, Saudi Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions (CBAHI) standards, ISO-15819 standards and other applicable regulating and accrediting bodies standards and hazardous material manuals documentation; coordinate laboratory personnel training for fire safety.
- Supervise the activities and performance of subordinate staff and provide feedback. Develop work schedules; implement productivity standards; resolve operations problems; implement established procedures; and ensure staff follows industry standards and safety regulations in handling and disposing of test samples.
- Accomplish staff job results by coaching, counselling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; conducting training; implementing enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure a full compliance with the hospital infection control and safety protocols including maintenance and safe operation of equipment.
- Assist laboratory management in developing the strategic plan on manpower needs, new services, staff development and laboratory/research activities.
- Participate in educational and professional growth activities related to the assigned area including teaching, training verification, competency testing and continuing medical education activities.
- Analyze the laboratory computer applications and manage data. Compile and submit monthly activity reports/statistics and other departmental and ad hoc reports as required. Contribute to the development of ongoing departmental quality improvement programs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Graduate from a medical school of good standing.
- Completion of required period of training in histopathology/ Anatomic pathology.
- Saudi Arab or American /European Board Certification or equivalent.
- Membership and/or Fellowship status in America and/or Europe or their equivalent and fulfilling the criteria for the consultant as required
- A certificate recognized by the Saudi commission is a must.
- Dataflow is a must.
Professional Experience
- Min. 3-4 years Post Board/Fellowship in histopathology/Anatomic pathology.
- A registered member of the Saudi Board Council
Language
- Proficiency in English; additional proficiency in Arabic may be beneficial.
