Responsible for assisting in the evaluation and treatment of speech, language, communication, and feeding difficulties in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This role involves working under the supervision of a Senior Speech Therapist, implementing therapy plans, and supporting the development of communication skills to enhance the quality of life for individuals with autism.
The Junior Speech Therapist will collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, engage with families, and document progress to ensure effective therapy outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessment Support: Assist in conducting speech and language assessments under the supervision of a Senior Speech Therapist. Help gather information through observations, standardized tests, and parent interviews to identify communication difficulties.
- Therapy Implementation: Implement individualized therapy plans designed by the Senior Speech Therapist to address communication and feeding issues. Conduct therapy sessions focusing on speech clarity, language development, social communication, and alternative communication methods (e.g., AAC). Use play-based and structured activities to promote language and communication development in both individual and group settings. Implement ABA method and follow the Clinical supervisor plan.
- Progress Monitoring: Monitor and record the progress of individuals in therapy, noting improvements and areas requiring additional focus. Report therapy outcomes to the Senior Speech Therapist and adjust strategies based on their feedback.
- Family Involvement: Work closely with families to provide guidance and strategies for supporting speech and language development at home. Educate parents and caregivers on communication techniques and the importance of consistent practice.
- Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Team: Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss individual progress and coordinate care with other professionals, such as occupational therapists, behavior analysts, and educators. Share observations and insights to contribute to comprehensive treatment plans.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of therapy sessions, progress notes, and any adjustments made to treatment plans. Prepare reports for internal team discussions and family meetings as needed.
- Professional Development: Stay updated with the latest research and practices in speech-language pathology and autism interventions. Attend training sessions, workshops, and other professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
