Job description

Job Title: Aircraft Structures Engineer
Location: Dhahran, Saudi Arabia
Job Purpose

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements to provide equipment, support, and training to Saudi Arabia. We maintain Royal Saudi Air Force aircraft and train RSAF personnel in a safe training environment on aircraft, equipment, and weapons.

Job Accountabilities

BAE Systems Saudi Arabia supports the Saudi Arabian National Agenda, including Saudisation and the development of Saudi National capabilities through local partner companies, fostering industrialisation and partnerships.

The Aircraft Structures Engineer is a structural specialist responsible for advising the RSAF on all structural design matters for aircraft repairs and related design work for SBDCP aircraft operating in Saudi Arabia. The role also includes providing engineering assistance across RSAF bases on various aircraft and policy matters, as directed by the Officer Commanding AES KAAB.

  1. Ensure repair methods and data used in the Kingdom maintain aircraft structural integrity and comply with Design Authority procedures.
  2. Identify repairs requiring referral to the Design Authority and coordinate between the Design Authority and RSAF engineering staff.
  3. Conduct damage assessments to determine necessary repair actions.
  4. Assist during the embodiment of structural repairs and modifications.
  5. Support aircraft incident and accident investigations with structural engineering expertise.
  6. Investigate recurring structural issues and recommend inspection and maintenance schedules.
  7. Prepare briefs for RSAF presentations to MODSAP, the Prime Contractor, and vendors at various meetings.
  8. Provide structural familiarisation training to RSAF engineers, including formal instruction leading to certification.
Recruitment Specification
Qualifications
  • Honours Degree in a Structures-related discipline (Aeronautical, Mechanical, etc.).
  • Completed a recognized course in aircraft engineering or related field, or an appropriate apprenticeship.
Relevant Experience
  • Extensive experience as an aircraft Design Engineer, with experience on at least one SBDCP aircraft (Hawk/Tornado) or Typhoon.
  • Self-motivated with problem-solving skills beyond standard Technical Orders, considering aircraft design philosophy.
  • Proficient in producing high-quality reports using Microsoft Office.
  • Skilled in creating detailed drawings, models, and repair instructions using AutoCAD or similar.
  • Qualified for consideration as a Design Authority/Design Organisation signature, if required.
Desirable

Experience within BAE Systems' Structures/Design Department is preferred, essential for granting Design Authority Signatory approval for SBDCP aircraft types in Saudi Arabia.
