Job description

Job Summary

As the Electrical Distribution Technician (Airfield Lighting Technician) assigned to Al Udeid Airforce Base in Qatar, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective operation, maintenance, and repair of airfield lighting, enhancing U.S. Military capabilities on the airfield. This position requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to safety. You will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing all airfield lighting systems, including high voltage (HV) lines up to 5kV and 2400 kV lines in designated locations on the base. The role involves managing lighting on runways, obstruction lighting, taxiways, aircraft ramps, and area lighting, including components like vaults, backup generators, fuel tanks, and UPS systems. You will also operate and maintain approach systems, runway threshold lights, and other related equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management: Manage resources and activities related to installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical power systems. Ensure compliance with all PWS requirements, host nation laws, and U.S. Department of Defense and State Department regulations.
  • Technical Expertise: Possess at least 5 years of experience in high/medium voltage electrical systems. Knowledge of electronics, electricity principles, circuit types, and associated equipment. Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure system integrity.
  • Safety and Compliance: Train team members on safety practices and manage hazardous waste and POL storage.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Prepare outage reports and maintain detailed records of operations, inspections, and maintenance activities. Analyze data and recommend improvements.
  • Qualifications: Experience with low voltage systems (24V-600V) and electrical distribution systems (up to 13,800V). Completion of approved DOD or equivalent training in Airfield Lighting. Ability to interpret technical diagrams and operate test equipment. Proficiency in English is required.
  • Education, Experience, and Credentials: Minimum of 10 years of full-time experience in airfield lighting. Valid ICC journeyman or master certification. Valid passport, ability to obtain residency visa, pass CENTCOM medical, and hold a valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Skills and Abilities: Ability to obtain Flight Line Driving Certification, effective communication, organizational skills, and ability to work under stress.
  • Security Clearance: Secret clearance required. U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
  • Austere Working Conditions: Ability to work in extreme weather, wear PPE, and perform in challenging environments.
