Job Summary

As the Electrical Distribution Technician (Airfield Lighting Technician) assigned to Al Udeid Airforce Base in Qatar, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective operation of airfield lighting, maintenance, and repairs, enhancing U.S. Military capabilities on the airfield. This position requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and an unwavering commitment to safety. You will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing all airfield lighting systems, including high voltage (HV) 5kV and up to 2400 kV lines, at specified locations on the base. The qualified candidate will manage airfield lighting on runways, obstruction lighting, taxiways, aircraft ramps, and area lighting. Components include vaults, backup generators, fuel tanks, and UPS systems. Responsibilities also include maintaining approach systems, runway threshold lights, and related circuits.

Responsibilities

  1. Leadership and Management:
    • Manage resources and activities related to installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical power systems.
    • Ensure compliance with all PWS requirements, host nation laws, and U.S. Department of Defense and State Department regulations.
  2. Technical Expertise:
    • Minimum 5 years of full-time experience in high/medium voltage electrical systems.
    • Knowledge of electronics and electricity principles, high/medium/low voltage circuits, circuit breakers, relays, meters, etc.
    • Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure system integrity.
    • Maintain compliance with contractual and manufacturer specifications.
  3. Safety and Compliance:
    • Train team members on safety practices and hazard analysis.
    • Manage hazardous waste and POL storage.
  4. Reporting and Documentation:
    • Prepare outage and other reports.
    • Maintain operational logs, record readings, and document maintenance activities.
  5. Qualifications:
    • Experience with low voltage (24-600V) and distribution systems up to 13,800V.
    • Completion of approved DOD or equivalent training in Airfield Lighting.
    • Proficiency in English and knowledge of electrical principles, schematics, and safety practices.
  6. Education, Experience, and Credentials:
    • Minimum 10 years’ full-time experience in Airfield Lighting.
    • ICC journeyman or master certification.
    • Valid passport and ability to obtain residency visa.
    • Pass CENTCOM medical and meet deployment requirements.
    • Valid driver’s license.
  7. Skills and Abilities:
    • Flight Line Driving Certification during employment.
    • Effective communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  8. Security Clearance: Secret Clearance Required.
  9. US Citizenship: Required, with maintained clearance eligibility.
  10. Austere Working Conditions:
    • Ability to work in extreme weather, PPE required.
