The Jazan IGCC is the world’s largest IGCC and ASU facility producing 2100 MMSCFD syngas, 18,000 MT/Day Oxygen and 4 Gigawatts of power. Facilities and assets include; residue gasification, acid gas clean up (Rectisol), soot ash recovery, sulphur recovery (Claus & Scot), combined cycle power plants, materials handling systems, hydrogen recovery, air separation, water utilities systems and waste water treatment facilities.


We require a Process Engineer with a strong understanding of plant process control methodology and practice or a Control Engineer with a strong understanding of process engineering principles and applications. You will support


the commissioning and early life phases of the project to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant operation. Your contribution will be to identify and solve operability issues by implementing process control solutions based on your understanding of the process. You will also provide a significant contribution in the journey to advanced and integrated controls across the facility.


Requirements of the Role


  • Tuning of simple control loops, cascade control loops and complex/inter-related control configurations.
  • Quickly identify the root cause of control/operability problems in commissioning and early operations and provide necessary solutions.
  • Analyse and understand operating plant behaviour and recommend modifications to improve controllability to meet the operational objectives
  • Review complex and inter-related control systems using key engineering design documents and recommend improvements to meet the design objectives.
  • Implementation and operational support of advanced control systems on process units.
  • Provide key input the development, implementation, testing and continuous improvement of a site master control system and cross site integrated trip system.
  • Optimising both continuous and batch processing control systems.
  • Production of design documentation such as PFD/P&ID mark ups, control narratives, cause and effect tables and logic diagrams.
  • Work effectively with system vendors/external service providers/external engineering resources.
  • Ability to deliver training to plant operators in process control and plant engineers in controller tuning.

You should have previous experience of the above gained in an operating plant or commissioning environment, working for an operating company, EPC, licensor/OEM or specialist service provider.


Required personal Attributes


  • The applicant must have a strong safety focus and be an advocate of working within a management of change system for plant control systems.
  • Strong communication skills from board operator to plant manager level
  • Able to work independently, with the self-confidence to solve problems on operating plant.
  • Able to communicate effectively across different cultural norms and with non-native English speakers.
  • Work efficiently as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The applicant will have


  • a minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering or Controls/Automation Engineering.
  • a minimum of 10 years' experience, 5 of which is gained in a role related to this position
  • Ideally have experience of 1 or more of the process technologies utilised at the Jazan IGCC.
