The University for Continuing Education Krems specializes in part-time academic continuing education. The Centre for Evidence-based Health Services Research is part of the Department for Evidence-based Medicine and Evaluation. The Department for Evidence-based Medicine and Evaluation is home to Cochrane Austria, the Austrian Centre for Evidence-based Healthcare - a JBI Affiliated Group - and is recognized as a WHO Collaborating Center for Evidence-based Medicine and as a Center for Evidence Reviews of the American College of Physicians. The Centre for Evidence-based Health Services Research is a member of the German Network for Health Services Research.

The following position is available to strengthen our team of the Centre for Evidence-based Health Services Research at the Department for Evidence-based Medicine and Evaluation at the Faculty of Health and Medicine:

Early-Stage Researcher – PhD Student (m/f/d)

30 hrs./week

Description of the offer:

The advertised position is part of an ongoing cooperation with the Lower Austrian Health and Social Fund (NÖGUS). The position is assigned to the Centre for Evidence-based Health Services Research with a focus on hospital care. The doctoral candidate will be entrusted with carrying out research work on the further development of methodological approaches in health services research.

  • Further development of evidence synthesis methods for health services research
  • Independently conducting scientific research with the aim of further developing the methods of evidence synthesis in health services research
  • Active participation in systematic evidence synthesis and other research projects
  • Teaching activities in the areas of health services research and evidence-based medicine, including supervision of bachelor theses
  • Publication of research results in international, peer-reviewed journals
  • Active participation in national and international conferences, presentation of research results and networking with colleagues from the scientific community
  • International research collaborations: Participation in global research collaborations, e.g. with Cochrane, JBI or the German Network for Health Services Research e.V.

We require evidence of the following qualifications for the application:

  • Completed university degree (at least Master/diploma) in a health, social or economic science subject area (fulfilment by 31 May 2025 at the latest) and eligible for doctoral studies
  • Basic knowledge of quantitative research methods and statistics, proven by successful completion of relevant courses
  • Basic understanding of the concepts of evidence-based medicine and epidemiology
  • Proof of scientific writing skills through scientific publications or a completed master's/diploma thesis
  • Excellent knowledge of German (at least C1) and very good knowledge of English (at least B2)

In addition, the following criteria are desirable:

  • Basic understanding of longitudinal data analyses
  • Experience in quantitative research, demonstrated by scientific publications, work experience or a master's/diploma thesis
  • Academic achievements, such as publications, presentations or awards
  • Flexibility, resilience and the ability to work effectively as part of a team

  • Part-time position (30 hours/week) initially limited until 30 September 2028
