We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate, Energy Sector (seasoned Analysts will also be considered). You‘ll work in our Sydney-based Energy Sector Coverage team and be part of the global Energy Sector platform that provides financial solutions to the major players in the energy sector from its regional hubs in Amsterdam, London, Frankfurt, Brussels, New York, Houston, Sydney Singapore, and Tokyo. Together with our product teams locally and in the wider APAC region, the Energy Team originates various types of banking solutions including corporate and project/structured finance, various forms of capital markets as well as financial markets solutions to a wide range of Energy companies across ANZ. Our remit spans across sub-sectors such as Renewables, Power, Utilities, New Energy Technologies (hydrogen, batteries and CCS) as well as Oil & Gas (upstream, midstream and downstream).

In this hands-on role, you’ll help further develop our predominantly regional renewables business by assisting origination and structuring of various types of banking transactions and working with various product teams to execute originated mandates and service the existing business.

What you’ll do …

Working in a dynamic deal team environment your key responsibilities are to:

Maintain strong knowledge of industry trends, banking products, relevant regulations to understand the business of the Bank's clients and energy transition developments. Contribute to the day-to-day management of client relationships.

Support senior colleagues (Vice Presidents, Directors, Managing Directors) in the origination of leading mandates (loans, financial markets, transaction services, debt capital markets) in the energy sector. Tasks may include pitch book preparation, industry research and financial modelling.

Coordinate and assist in performing due diligence and reviewing due diligence reports to support the risk analysis and determine bankability.

Support various product teams and in particular the lending Transaction Management team with the provision of the commercial and credit approvals and legal documentation processes, including where required:

Analysis of due diligence including technical, financial, business and market analysis

Preparation of credit applications with appropriate guidance

Review of legal documentation

Collaborate with other product partners across sustainable finance, financial markets, distribution sales, loan capital markets, debt capital markets, and transaction services in delivery of solutions for our clients

Support senior deal team members on initiating client onboardings and compliance with KYC policies and processes, liaising with the Client Outreach team.

Support senior deal team members with internal client planning sessions and briefing notes for senior stakeholder meetings. Internal co-ordination with risk, compliance, operations and other internal teams to facilitate client transactions and the development of client coverage strategies.

Support, among others, the delivery of ING Differentiators, NPS and client market surveys, pipeline management, internal and external reporting, deals database submissions, and other ad-hoc projects related to effective management of the business and client relationship.

Ensure adherence to ING internal policies, regulatory requirements (eg CPS231 outsourcing), completing mandatory training as it relates to the sector or wholesale banking organisation, and maintaining an open and transparent culture;

What we’re looking for…

Proven track record of working in a transaction setting with strong financial and credit analysis capabilities.

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in energy sector preferably in Banking

Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and conduct portfolio analysis.

Strong financial modelling capability with Microsoft Excel including the ability to build detailed financial models (including usage of basic Macros).

An ability to work without supervision on complex transactions with often tight timelines

A highly motivated and entrepreneurial mindset and a pro-active and self-motivated disposition
