Director Medical Services, Mental Health

Welcome to St John of God Health Care

St John of God Health Care is one of the largest private providers of health care services in Australia, employing more than 16,000 employees (caregivers). We operate 26 hospitals and services comprising more than 3,300 hospital beds, including home nursing, disability services, and social outreach programs.

St John of God Richmond and Burwood Hospitals are seeking an inspiring Director of Medical Services (DMS) to provide strategic leadership and drive clinical excellence at both mental health hospitals. This is an outstanding opportunity for a visionary leader to join a newly appointed CEO to shape medical services, enhance governance, and foster a collaborative, innovative, and patient-centred culture.

St John of God Richmond is a well-regarded mental health facility offering specialised services, including inpatient and outpatient care, psychological support, and rehabilitation programs. Located in northwest Sydney, it provides compassionate care for individuals experiencing medical health challenges. Similarly, St John of God Burwood Hospital, located in Sydney's inner west, focuses on mental health, offering both acute and long-term care for individuals with mental health conditions.

You will lead a dedicated medical team, upholding our Mission, Vision, and Values while promoting integrity, professionalism, and compassionate care.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Provide strong clinical leadership to ensure the highest standards of medical practice.
  2. Develop and implement strategic plans for medical services and clinical governance.
  3. Foster a culture of excellence, teamwork, and collaboration across disciplines.
  4. Lead quality and clinical risk management programs to enhance patient safety.
  5. Represent the hospital professionally in industry forums and stakeholder engagements.
  6. Uphold the Ethical Standards of Catholic Health Care.

You will hold Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) and bring a proven track record of clinical leadership, governance expertise, and the ability to achieve outstanding patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and service satisfaction in acute healthcare settings.

To succeed, you will need demonstrated expertise in change management, strong influencing skills, and a proven ability to cultivate a service-oriented culture that promotes excellent patient care and responsible stewardship, with a focus on innovation and productivity enhancements.

As an integral part of our hospital's leadership team, you will bring experience in applying quality and clinical risk management across both hospitals.

We are offering a flexible part-time opportunity to combine your Specialist VMO role on other days, along with generous remuneration and employee benefits.

Join us and be part of a values-driven organisation committed to making a real difference in patient care.
