The Department of Biosciences and Medical Biology / Working Group Biochemistry and Metabolism is seeking to fill the position of research and teaching assistant in accordance with the Austrian Universities Act (UG) and the Salaried Employees Act (Angestelltengesetz) as a Senior Scientist in accordance with § 26 of the collective agreement for universities. (Category B1; the minimum monthly salary for this position is € 4,932.90 gross (14× per year) and may be increased on the basis of the collective agreement regulations by taking into account previous job-specific experience).

– Planned start of employment: as soon as possible

– Duration of employment: 5 years– Hours of employment per week: 40

– Working hours: by agreement

Responsibilities:

– Scientific support in research and teaching in the area of the Chair of Biochemistry and Metabolism ( https://scholar.google.at/citations?user=ZE7yV8MAAAAJhl=en)

– Participation in administrative tasks;– Laboratory management and organization;

– Research into clinically relevant models (e.g. cell culture with organoid models or genetically modified mouse models) and testing of new therapies in the field of solid carcinomas;

– Scientific and technical support in the laboratory, with a focus on molecular biology, biochemistry, metabolism and cell biology;

– Participation in the supervision of master’s and doctoral theses, internships and training of technical staff in the field of cancer research;

– Data collection and analysis as well as participation in the preparation of scientific publications;– Active and independent acquisition of third-party funds;

– Close cooperation with groups in the department as well as with clinical groups and industrial partners, and international working groups;

– Teaching in the field of biochemistry, central signaling pathways in oncology and metabolic pathways in cancer for 4 semester hours per week.

Employment requirements:

– Completed relevant doctoral studies in the field of biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology or comparable subjects with sufficient publication activity to also qualify for third-party funding applications

Desired additional qualification:

– Several years of experience in the field of molecular analysis, biochemistry, omics technologies, cell biology, microscopy, immunology’ basic knowledge of organoid technology;

– Experience and motivation in researching disease models, working with cell culture systems and central cancer pathways;

– Experience with technologies for the functional investigation of disturbed genetic processes;

– Basic understanding of pharmacological interventions and biological processes in the field of immunology/onco-immunology;

– Basic knowledge of immunology and flow cytometry;

– Experience in supervision of students, Master and PhD students;

– German language level B and fluency in written and spoken English.
