Silicon Austria Labs (SAL) is appointing excellent candidates in Graz and Linz to initiate new research topics in electronic and software-based systems, extending SAL's existing portfolio.

The successful candidate will have an exceptional track record in electronic and software-based systems, be capable of establishing and leading a high-impact research unit, and demonstrate strong communication skills. Experience in initiating and managing R&D projects with industrial partners and a large international network within academia and industry are essential.

Leadership responsibilities

  • Establish, lead, and develop a new research unit with 10-20 researchers.
  • Secure financial resources through SAL's cooperation models.
  • Strategically plan and allocate resources to meet organizational goals.
  • Mentor, guide, and supervise researchers.
  • Share corporate and profit responsibilities.
  • Initiate and oversee collaborative projects with academia and industry.
  • Expand the international network through partnerships.
  • Shape the research program and create project portfolios.
  • Drive research excellence and economic impact.
  • Create a motivating and collaborative environment for scientists.

Scientific responsibilities

  • Develop the research unit to a world-class level.
  • Guide the career development of team members.
  • Define research priorities, organizational structure, and resource allocation.
  • Manage collaborative and funded research projects.
  • Support scientific and industrial project partners.
  • Lead research initiatives with industrial partners and secure funding.
  • Disseminate research findings through publications and conferences.

Profile

  • PhD in engineering or physics with relevant expertise.
  • Deep understanding of the global market and European industrial ecosystem.
  • Outstanding international research achievements.
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience.
  • Experience in establishing new entities.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Minimum 10 years managing international projects and securing funding.
  • Strong industrial and academic network.
  • Proactive, creative, and independent thinker.
  • Effective leader inspiring teams.
  • Fluent in English; German is a plus.
