Our client is a Melbourne-based start-up operating in the education and workforce solutions space. They specialise in providing high-quality resourcing and staffing services to educational institutions, helping schools, early learning centers, and training providers meet critical talent needs in a competitive market. With demand for their services accelerating, the business is experiencing rapid growth and is entering a new phase of internal capability building. This role will be reporting directly to the CEO and we anticipate the project to go from 4 - 6 months.
The Role
Our client is a rapidly growing start-up in the services industry that is bringing its finance function fully in-house for the first time. As part of this transformation, they are seeking an experienced senior finance professional to lead the end-to-end setup of a scalable finance department. This role will be responsible for designing and implementing core finance processes including financial and management reporting, month-end close, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow management, tax and compliance obligations (BAS, FBT, payroll tax), and internal controls.
A major component of the role will be overseeing the selection, configuration, and implementation of a cloud-based ERP system, including integration with operational systems and setting up a chart of accounts, workflows, approval hierarchies, and reporting dashboards. The successful candidate will also be tasked with recruiting, onboarding, and developing a high-performing finance team, defining team structure, roles, and responsibilities, and embedding best-practice governance and financial controls suitable for a scaling, founder-led environment.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills are essential, as the role will work closely with the CEO and executive leadership to support commercial decision-making. This is a hands-on role suited to a transformation-focused finance leader who has previously built finance functions in high-growth or greenfield environments.
