The Department of Civil Law is seeking a university assistant ("prae doc") with Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Christiane Wendehorst, LL.M. (Cantab.), starting July 1, 2025. The employment contract is initially limited to 1.5 years and may be extended to a total of 4 years, unless non-renewal is declared after 12 months. Candidates with a law degree and excellent academic results, especially in civil law and related private law subjects, are encouraged to apply. The role involves research and teaching in civil law, corporate law, and current legal issues in digitalization, such as AI, data economics, platform regulation, and data protection. Active participation in research projects, publications, and course preparation is expected. Fluency in German and English is required.

This Is What You Do

  • Involvement in department administration, teaching, and research administration
  • Participation in publications, research studies, presentations, and projects
  • Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
  • Supervision of students
  • Organization of meetings, conferences, and symposiums
  • Signing a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months

Minimum Requirements

  • Completion of a law degree with above-average success
  • High professional, methodological, and didactic competence
  • Excellent command of written and spoken German and English
  • IT skills
  • Ability to work in a team

Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge of university processes and structures
  • Basic research methods and academic writing experience
