Your role and responsibilitiesThe Head of Communications at B&R, the Machine Automation Division of the ABB Group, is globally responsible for all internal and external communication activities, ensuring that the company’s market leadership is clearly communicated. This role involves developing and executing a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with business objectives, collaborating closely with R&D and Sales to design targeted, multi-channel communication initiatives. Key areas include thought leadership, media relations, internal change communication, trade shows, and event communication. Responsibilities also include content creation and localization, media relations management, and measuring communication success through KPIs. Coordination with ABB’s central communication teams and alignment of local efforts globally are essential. The current team includes five members, with the position for “MR, PR and PA” also open, making the total team responsibility at least six people.
Your primary workplace can be flexibly chosen within a 300 km radius around Eggelsberg (e.g., Munich, Regensburg). Regular presence of approximately 50% at our headquarters in Eggelsberg is expected.
- Strategic Communication Planning & Advisory: Develop and execute a 360° communication strategy to strengthen B&R’s positioning, including thought leadership, executive speaking engagements, internal change communication, and media relations. Ensure alignment with ABB’s broader communication strategy and oversee crisis communication planning and response globally.
- Customer-Centric Communication & Content Creation: Collaborate with Marketing & Sales to implement targeted initiatives across digital channels, trade shows, and press & PR. Develop localized content, secure media placements, and create press releases, speeches, and brand-enhancing content. Plan and execute global and regional press events, including digital, hybrid, and in-person formats.
- Executional Excellence & Performance Measurement: Ensure high-quality execution of communication initiatives, monitor media coverage, and analyze media insights for improvement. Measure success via KPIs to track ROI. Support strategic partnerships, sponsorships, and advertising to drive growth.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Lead and develop the global communications team, coordinate local efforts, build a content repository, and share best practices. Foster relationships with media and industry influencers, act as a spokesperson, and provide media training for senior executives.
Qualifications for the role- Master’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.
- 12+ years of international public relations experience, preferably with a mix of corporate and agency roles in a technology-focused industry, including leadership experience.
- Proven success in designing and executing media campaigns at various scales.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and German (C2 proficiency).
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills, with experience as a company spokesperson.
- Proficiency in social media management, digital content creation, and event planning.
- Knowledge of digital media tools and project management.
- Ability to work effectively in a matrixed, global organization with cross-functional and intercultural collaboration skills.
- Strong business acumen and adaptability to fast-paced, changing environments.
