Your Responsibilities

TheLab Support Facility (LSF) at ISTA provides scientists with centralized basic support structures that are required for efficient research work. We are expanding our services and are looking for a highly motivated individual to build up and operate support structures with focus on experimental life sciences (biochemistry, cell biology, developmental biology, evolutionary biology, molecular biology, neuroscience).

  • Work closely with research groups to plan, implement and maintain central services for life science research labs
  • Procure, maintain and, if applicable, operate facility equipment (e.g. qPCRs, plate reader, centrifuges) with a focus on histology equipment (e.g. cryostats, microtomes, embedding stations)
  • Develop, provide and monitor training and technical support on facility equipment to users
  • Develop, implement and monitor laboratory infrastructure services (e.g. safety measures, waste disposal) in accordance with Austrian legislation
  • Coordinate laboratory construction and reconstruction to ensure efficient laboratory operations
  • Conceive and implement rules, guidelines and SOPs

Your Profile

  • Advanced degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or related field with proven practical experience in experimental life science laboratories
  • Thorough technical understanding and working knowledge of typical lab equipment (e.g. qPCR, plate reader, centrifuges) with a focus on histology equipment
  • Experience in the area of quality management, procurement and/or laboratory safety are of advantage
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (working language of the Institute) and advanced German skills
  • Hands on mentality and service oriented approach towards researchers
  • Goal oriented working style with high conceptual and organizational skills
  • Excellent team player with a with a friendly, collaborative, can-do mindset
