Management Accounting & Budgeting (Accounting)

Mars are partnering with a Tier-1 Mining Producer as they are looking for a Senior Management Accountant / Analyst to join the team on a contract basis.

This position is well suited to a candidate that has 4-5+ years of experience within the mining sector and proven to deliver as a key business partner to site operations.

Although commencing the contract before the new year is ideal, applicants with a notice period are still encouraged to apply as our client wants the right person in the seat given the likelihood of permanency.

The Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis to support mining operations, including cost analysis, variance reporting, and operational performance metrics to drive profitability and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to develop accurate budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial models aligned with production schedules and resource planning.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including operations, procurement, and project management, to identify financial risks and opportunities, providing actionable insights to optimise decision-making.
  • Evaluate and refine financial processes within operational frameworks, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and alignment with industry best practices and organisational goals.
  • Leverage financial data and operational KPIs to identify trends, challenges, and growth opportunities, supporting strategic initiatives and enhancing operational performance.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports for senior management, ensuring compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements, and maintaining transparency in operational spending.

The Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field & CPA / CA Qualified
  • Minimum 4-5 years of experience in financial analysis, with a focus on operational roles within the mining industry.
  • Strong understanding of mining operations, including cost drivers, production processes, and industry-specific financial metrics.
  • Advanced skills in financial modelling and data analysis using tools such as Excel, SAP, Power BI, or other ERP and reporting systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present financial insights and collaborate with diverse stakeholders effectively.
  • Demonstrated capacity to address operational and financial challenges through innovative solutions and process optimisation.
