About the role

Amazon MSP (Mechatronics and Sustainable Packaging) is seeking a motivated Automation Engineer to join the Design and Test team. This multidisciplinary team of design leaders and test engineers is dedicated to advancing automation knowledge and supporting the fulfillment of millions of customer orders daily. The automation engineer will define design and validation plans, from concept creation to final design ready for shipment to Amazon fulfillment centers and beyond. Responsibilities include defining electrical, mechanical, and control subsystems for testing and validation of Amazon’s mechatronics and sustainable packaging products. The engineer will also plan and manage timelines, capacity, and resources for subsystem verification tests and complete system verification and validation tests to support new technology and product development. Collaboration with hardware, electrical, controls development, test engineers, technical operations, and solutions engineering teams is essential for defining, executing, and reporting on verification and validation tests.

Key responsibilities

  1. Develop and conceptualize test and validation strategies for automation systems and their subsystems.
  2. Deep knowledge of hardware component validation, including unit, integration, and regression tests.
  3. Familiarity with safety and quality standards and processes.
  4. Interpretation of multidisciplinary engineering test results and deriving conclusions.

About the team

The ANR10 test and design team is responsible for defining and implementing development processes for mechatronic systems. This includes eliciting stakeholder requirements, defining system requirements and architecture, leading system design, and ensuring system functionality aligns with customer needs through design validation and system verification tests.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering.
  • Experience designing and testing industrial automation or packaging machinery.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with testing equipment, processes, and standards.
  • Experience managing technical projects.
  • Proficiency in English; Flemish/Dutch is a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of design and test processes for complex mechatronic and automation systems.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC systems (e.g., Siemens, Beckhoff, Rockwell, Codesys) and industrial protocols (EtherCAT, Modbus).
  • Knowledge of LV & HV industrial electrical panels and safety standards.
  • Experience with software packages like Teamcenter, Polarion, E-plan.
  • Experience in defining system validation and verification test plans, including durability and functional checks.
  • Knowledge of destructive tests, induced failure tests, and diagnosis of mechatronic systems.
