Role Overview

The role of the Cargo Manager is to research and identify opportunities to develop new and maintain existing cargo trade volumes by analyzing and providing insights and recommendations into supply chains to customers, including an in-depth knowledge of cargo handling bulk, break bulk, and containerized cargos. Managing relationships with supply chain participants such as shipping agents, transport operators, infrastructure owners, and other port industry service providers is critical. The Cargo Manager is responsible for introducing new and maintaining existing shipping services to Flinders Port Holding ports and supporting the overall Group Business Development objectives of Flinders Ports Holdings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive commercial outcomes by delivering cargo trade and property initiatives that increase revenue or improve efficiency;
  • Work with the Finance Department to ensure accurate cargo and shipping budgeting, forecasting, and manage cargo pricing and storage;
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure vessel and berth options suit cargo operations needs and ensure suitable port facilities for cargo handling and stevedoring requirements;
  • Develop supply chain value propositions and business cases to attract and retain cargo through FPH ports;
  • Build and maintain relationships with cargo owners, service providers, and industry stakeholders; and
  • Monitor and analyze supply chain trends and technologies, maintain accurate data and reporting, and stay abreast of industry regulations.

About you

Your skills and experience will include;

  • Degree in Commerce or Business or equivalent skills and knowledge gained through industry experience;
  • Advanced finance management and budgeting skills;
  • Experience in the ports/maritime or logistics industries;
  • Strong customer focus and commitment to service excellence;
  • Advanced leadership and stakeholder management skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including writing proposals, recommendations, and investment rationales;
  • Strong negotiation skills; and
  • Ability to identify opportunities and risks.
