As the Senior Support Programmer, you will be planning, coordinating, and delivering specialised and expert technical systems analysis, design, development, and maintenance functions to ensure the quality of applications. This may include enhancements of existing applications or the development or configuration of complex new systems.

  • Six years of recent significant experience as a maintenance analyst/programmer working in a current mainframe Natural/Adabas or IDMS/ADSO/COBAL environment.
  • Significant experience in full stack development and second and third level support for mainframe, backend systems, middleware, and web-based presentation layer.
  • Significant experience with multiple relevant programming languages, development tools/environments and methodologies including one or more of:
  • Java/J2EE
  • Web service integration (REST/SOAP, WSDL, XML, Canonical Data Models)
  • Oracle Fusion Middle Ware Platform - Oracle SOA Suite 12c (BPEL, OSB, OWSM, Mediator, EDN, XPAth, XSLT, X Query and JCA adaptas)
  • RUP (Rational Unified Process)
  • IDMS/ADSO/COBAL
  • Eclips, JDeveloper, SOAP, UI, Maven
  • ADABAS/NATURAL
  • Extensive SQL and relational database skills.
  • Significant experience in, and knowledge of, networks (IP, LAN, WAN), OS (Linux/Windows), clustering, load balancing, logging and auditing, and relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and expertise in service management processes (ITIL) in the delivery of IT application services and an understanding of SDLC principles.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and significant competence in administering change and configuration management processes.
  • Well-developed analytical and conceptual thinking skills including demonstrated ability to gather and interpret information, analyse complex and strategic business issues systematically, understand them and present application-based solutions.
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills to articulate technical ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within broad direction and establish or improve services.
  • Ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and foster collaborative working relationships.
  • Knowledge of the principles of Equity and Diversity requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to WH&S legislation, principles and practices; and risk assessment in accordance with the WH&S Act (2012), Regulation, approved codes of practice and AS/NZS ISO 31000:2009 Risk Management - Principles and Guidelines.
  • Relevant degree qualification in Information Technology or related discipline.
  • Experience in the development or enhancement of the Niche RMS in the SAPOL environment.
  • Experience in project management, planning and delivery.
  • Knowledge of Government policy related to ICT and information management and of information systems.
