The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Chief Financial Controller Directorate (CFC) – Financial Reporting and Accounting Department (FRA), at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE

Please note that you are requested to limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications. We will only consider and retain the first three applications submitted.

Objective of the traineeship

Your role will be linked to different projects to be implemented in the Chief Financial Controller Directorate (CFC) where you will assist the CFC officers in charge providing accounting support and enhancing the control framework as per indications. Inter alia, the projects in which you will be involved are:

  • Support MILES valuation project after the beginning and deployment of the execution phase;
  • Support ESG reporting;
  • Support in the oversight and fine tuning of the automated solutions for accounting (borrowing, lending and treasury) and valuation;
  • Internal control framework enhancement and update;
  • Support in the implementation of the hedge accounting activities including support for new strategies of hedge accounting or economic hedges;
  • Support in the Highly Accurate Data for Exposure Situation project aimed at the rationalization of the exposures definition and migration;
  • Data Ware House (DWH) projects aimed at the modernization and implementation of new data in the DWH Universes;
  • Support in the enhancement of the process and procedures aimed at the production of specific reporting to be sent to European Commission and Member States;
  • Support in implementing the new project regarding data governance and data ownership;
  • Support in the further development of the EU Accounting Directives and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) new disclosures updates.

Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Check the exhaustiveness, completeness and accuracy of data in test environment or other environment of the above mentioned projects, ensuring the data migration process and the correct mapping;
  • Ensure the compliance with different accounting standards (in cooperation with the accounting officers);
  • Report findings to Financial Control staff/other services in charge of the coordination of the projects;
  • Support in analyzing structured problem related to different accounting treatment and in facilitating the implementation of the solutions in the relevant IT systems;
  • Document, under the supervision of the relevant officer, the identified risk and update the control processes;
  • Support the officers in tracking and reporting the relevant progress in each specific aforementioned project .

Academic qualifications and professional skills

  • Final year of studies or University degree preferably in finance/accounting;
  • Very good knowledge of accounting principles;
  • Very good knowledge of the standard Microsoft office tools (Word, Excel);
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Knowledge of other EU language would be an advantage.
