The University of Vienna, a vibrant community of over 10,000 individuals including approximately 7,500 academic staff, is seeking a University Assistant postdoctoral within the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies. This position is based in the department of English and American Studies, specifically within the British cultural and literary studies team, emphasizing interdisciplinarity and excellence in research.

Position Details

  • Start date: 01.09.2025
  • Duration: Limited until 31.08.2029
  • Working hours: 40 hours/week
  • Salary: EUR 4,932.90/month (14 times/year), with potential increases for professional experience

Responsibilities

  1. Develop and strengthen independent research profile
  2. Publish and present research internationally
  3. Manage project applications and seek third-party funding
  4. Prepare and write a habilitation thesis
  5. Teach courses independently as per collective agreement
  6. Supervise students
  7. Participate in evaluation and quality assurance processes
  8. Engage in departmental and research administration

Candidate Profile

  • Second book project in British cultural studies or literary studies with cultural perspectives
  • Research interests in Medical Humanities, Sexuality Studies, Body Theories
  • Competence in British cultures, literatures, media, and cultural theory
  • Willingness to acquire third-party funding
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written
  • Teamwork ability
  • Teaching and e-learning experience
  • Research project experience and publications
  • International presentation experience
  • Knowledge of university processes and international experience
  • Student supervision experience
