Technical Support Engineer (m/f/d)

The support team at Proxmox is responsible for providing technical support to clients of our open-source product suites.

About the Role

As a key member of our team, you will help our clients by:

• Diagnosing and resolving software and hardware problems related to Proxmox products to minimize downtime.
• Providing prompt ticket-based support to maintain fully functional client systems (no phone support).
• Performing software testing and benchmarking.
• Delivering technical pre-sales support.
• Clearly and patiently explaining technical solutions.
• Collaborating with development to triage and resolve regressions.
• Engaging with open-source communities.

Required Skills

The ideal candidate will possess:

• 2+ years of experience as a Systems Administrator or IT Support professional in a customer-facing role.
• Basic knowledge of virtualization (KVM, LXC, Proxmox VE preferred) and/or Proxmox products.
• Experience administering networking and firewalls (e.g., iptables).
• Experience managing the full support lifecycle, including triage, bug reporting, and resolution.
• A strong drive to learn new technologies and a willingness to explore them in depth.
• Excellent English and German communication skills.
• Familiarity with help desk and ticketing systems.
• A collaborative and communicative approach to teamwork and client interactions.

Bonus Skills

We would highly value:

• Experience with other operating systems (Windows Server, BSD).
• Exposure to data center operations and best practices.
• In-depth knowledge of Linux networking and security.
• Experience with Linux-based storage technologies.
• Contributions to the Linux or virtualization open-source ecosystem.

Legally required minimum gross monthly salary range (full-time, 38.5 h/week, 14 payments annually): EUR 2,500 – 4,000, with actual salary dependent on qualifications and experience.
