The Institute of Chemistry at the University of Graz is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position in the field of Organic Chemistry and Biocatalysis, under the supervision of Dr. Christoph Winkler. This project, funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), offers an excellent opportunity to work in an international research environment, including collaboration with Prof. Marc Garcia-Borràs at the University of Girona, Spain.
Project Overview
– Focus on the development of a novel photobiocatalytic enzyme platform for C–C bond formation
– Project duration: 3 years
– Includes a 6–9 month research stay at the University of Girona (Spain)
– Preferred start date: November 2025
Funding And Benefits
– Gross salary of approximately €2780 per month (14 payments per year)
– Net salary of approximately €2000 per month
– Training in biocatalysis, organic synthesis, bioinformatics, molecular biology, high-throughput methods, and enzyme engineering
– Collaborative and international research environment
Requirements
– Master’s degree in organic chemistry, biochemistry, or a related discipline
– Knowledge of molecular biology, biotransformations, and enzyme/organic synthesis
– Experience with HPLC, GC, NMR, bioinformatics, and automation is advantageous
– Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
– Ability to work independently and collaboratively
– Eligibility for graduate studies at the University of Graz
