Senior Mine Engineer

This position is ideally suited to a Mining Engineer with underground coal experience who is looking to take ownership of mine design, planning, and operational support at a technically interesting and complex site.

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, you’ll be part of a collaborative and experienced technical services team, providing critical input into the safe and efficient planning of underground mining operations.

Residential living in the local Moranbah region is welcomed, however FIFO from Brisbane is available on a balanced 5/2 – 4/3 lifestyle roster.

About the Operation

This well-established underground coal mine is located approximately 25km east of Moranbah, in Queensland’s Bowen Basin — a globally significant steelmaking coal region.

The operation utilises both longwall and bord & pillar mining methods, extracting high-quality metallurgical coal for international markets. The mine features a modern Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) and shares infrastructure with a nearby development project, offering exposure to both mature operations and future growth.

About the Role
As Senior Mining Engineer – Underground, your key responsibilities will include:

• Preparing detailed mine designs, schedules, and plans for underground operations.
• Providing technical input into production planning, infrastructure design, and gas drainage projects.
• Ensuring compliance with statutory and site-specific safety and operational standards.
• Working closely with production and technical teams to optimise designs and operational outcomes.
• Preparing budgets, technical documentation, standards, and safe work procedures.
• Collaborating with other engineers, survey, and drafting personnel to ensure project goals are met.

About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring:

• A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering.
• Proven experience in an underground coal mining environment.
• Strong mine design and scheduling capability.
• Experience with mine planning software (or willingness to learn).
• Commitment to site safety, operational best practice, and production targets.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
