Business Intelligence Engineer, Finance Operations, Global Data & Analytics (GDA) team

The Business Intelligence Engineer will be a part of the high-visibility, growth-oriented, and dynamic Finance Operations, Global Data & Analytics (GDA) team. The GDA team seeks an exceptionally talented Business Intelligence Engineer who can build reporting objects and use analytics to influence business outcomes. The role involves developing analytical solutions to empower Amazon's Accounts Payable and Receivable teams to operate at scale and resolve process defects. The engineer will navigate ambiguity to rapidly learn Amazon’s “Order to Cash” and “Procure to Pay” processes and data sets, becoming a trusted analytics partner for over 2,000 business partners across Finance Operations Headquarters and Service Centers.

Key job responsibilities

  1. BI Governance and Compliance - data segregation, access management, code governance, GDPR, HR Privacy Compliance
  2. Build and manage Tableau and QuickSight dashboards
  3. Optimize and organize data pipelines into the visualization environment
  4. Collaborate with business users on requirements, objectives, and measures
  5. Access and use analytical tools (various databases, SQL)
  6. Provide input and recommendations on technical issues to the data engineering team
  7. Review technical work of team members and suggest improvements
  8. Contribute significantly to data design, modeling, and data extracts/transforms
  9. Develop implementation and operation support plans for QuickSight
  10. Work in a global environment with teams in the USA and India

A day in the life

The Business Intelligence Engineer will build high-performing analytics products using SQL, Excel, Tableau, and QuickSight. The role involves partnering with global Finance Operations teams to become an expert in core processes, enhancing metric governance, identifying analytical opportunities, and leveraging data to influence operations. Strong SQL skills (intermediate to expert) are essential.

About the team

Global Data Analytics (GDA) manages all Finance Operations reporting across Amazon’s businesses and geographies. GDA’s mission is to be trusted, business-focused analytics partners providing timely data, insights, and metrics. We are custodians of data definitions and apply scientific methods to large-scale transactional processes. Our vision is to empower Accounts Receivable and Payable departments to achieve large-scale business outcomes through advanced data capabilities and real-time insights.

Experience in Finance Operations, banking, or related sectors is a plus.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Finance, or related field
  • Experience working with large data sets and writing complex SQL queries
  • Experience as a Business Analyst or BI Engineer
  • Proficiency in Tableau / QuickSight
  • Ability to present complex data clearly and concisely

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with data warehousing, BI tools, techniques, and technologies
  • Knowledge of programming languages (Java/Python/Scala)
  • Experience with Star Schemas, Dimensional Models, Data Marts in traditional and big data environments
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and big-picture understanding
  • Effective communication skills for senior audiences
  • Experience with cloud databases like Amazon Redshift, RDS, or Azure DW
  • Experience managing Tableau sites and troubleshooting dashboards
