The Manager – Enterprise Risk & Compliance is accountable for establishing, embedding, and continuously improving MLG’s enterprise risk management and compliance framework. This role provides oversight across financial, legal, regulatory, procurement, ESG (including modern slavery and climate-related disclosures), safety compliance risks, and technology/digital risk, ensuring that MLG’s governance, reporting, and assurance processes meet stakeholder expectations and regulatory requirements.

The position supports the Chief Commercial Officer, the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and the Risk & Compliance Committee by providing independent insight, assurance, and recommendations to strengthen MLG’s governance, risk, and compliance maturity, while supporting strategic decision making and value creation.

KEY SKILLS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, able to interpret complex legislation and risk data.
  • Strategic mindset, able to align risk/compliance to business objectives.
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders and drive cultural change.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with strong Board and ELT presentation skills.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • At least 10 years’ experience in enterprise risk, compliance, governance, or audit roles within mining, resources, infrastructure, or other high-reliability industries.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing or embedding enterprise risk frameworks and reporting to Board/Committee level.
  • Hands-on experience in regulatory compliance (financial, legal, ESG, procurement, safety).
  • Track record of leading or coordinating internal audit and assurance programs.
  • Experience working with senior executives and influencing across functions.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Awareness, knowledge and understanding of:

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise risk management principles (ISO 31000).
  • Understanding of corporate governance frameworks (e.g., ASX Corporate Governance Principles).
  • Awareness of financial risk management, internal controls, and audit standards.
  • Knowledge of climate-related financial disclosure frameworks (TCFD, ISSB, ASX guidance) and their integration into risk reporting.
  • Understanding of technology and cyber risks, data privacy regulations, and digital resilience strategies.
  • Knowledge of modern slavery obligations, ethical sourcing, and supply chain risk.
  • Understanding of WHS, environmental, and operational compliance (at governance/assurance level).
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools and techniques for risk assessment.
  • Knowledge of business continuity and crisis management planning.

LICENCES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Mandatory

  • Degree in Business, Law, Finance, Risk, or related discipline.
  • Professional membership or certification (Risk Management Institute, Governance Institute, CIA).
  • Postgraduate qualification in Governance, Risk, or Compliance.
  • Audit certification (internal audit, ISO standards).
  • WHS or Environmental auditor certification (as an advantage, not core).
  • Lead Auditor Certification in Quality, Safety, or Environmental Management Systems.
