Role Purpose
Join the Drug Substance Development team in Schaftenau as a Senior Expert Science & Technology (m/f/d) – Bioprocess Modeling & Simulation to leverage advanced modeling & AI tools in bringing innovative medicines to patients.

About The Role
We seek a scientist with expertise in digitalization, modeling & simulation, and AI applications to support upstream bioprocess development. The role is suitable for a technically skilled individual with strategic insight at the intersection of biotechnology and data science.
Your Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
- Design, develop, and deploy advanced modeling and simulation strategies for upstream cell culture processes, including mechanistic, data-driven, and hybrid models, digital twins, and Model Predictive Control (MPC) integrated with Process Analytical Technology (PAT).
- Implement AI and generative AI (genAI) solutions to analyze structured and unstructured data sources such as ELNs, LIMS, and scientific publications.
- Collaborate globally to align modeling strategies, share best practices, and develop standards and platforms.
- Support digitalization initiatives including data infrastructure, lab automation, and digital workflows.
- Mentor junior scientists and contribute to strategic planning of modeling and simulation efforts.
- Ensure compliance with data integrity, quality, and regulatory standards.
What You’ll Bring To The Role
- Education / Experience: PhD in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or MSc with 6+ years.
- Languages: Fluent in English; German is a plus.
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience in process modeling and simulation, especially in bioprocessing and upstream cell culture; deep knowledge in machine learning, mechanistic modeling, digital twin development, and process control; experience with generative AI is a plus; proficiency in programming languages (Python, R, MATLAB), modeling software (gPROMS, Aspen Plus, Simulink), and AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn); understanding of bioprocessing principles is advantageous.
