Responsibilities

  • Recording and documentation of archaeological finds (stone tools, ceramics, non-ferrous and precious metals, glass, wood, bone, leather, natural fibres, etc.) and features (plans, etc.) according to the latest standards (drawing, digital photography, 3D modelling, 3D scan, structure from motion method) and equipment (strip light scanner, Keyence microscope)
  • Creation of images, visualisations and reconstructions suitable for publication and marketing (e.g. Printed material for third missions, exhibitions, etc.) as well as a contemporary layout of find and excavation publications
  • Responsibility for the documentation room; organisation and coordination of the use of the documentation room as well as the maintenance, use and issue of documentation equipment. Supporting institute staff and students in documentation matters
  • Responsibility for the documentation archive and the long‑term safeguarding and storage of data from the finds and findings documentation

Profile

  • A-Level-Diploma or equivalent qualification
  • Experience in archaeological finds and findings documentation or demonstrable competence in a comparable documentation‑related field of activity
  • Experience in graphics, layout design and photography – work samples are desirable (find drawings, plans, photos, graphic work, 3D models, etc.)
  • Confident handling of common tools for image processing (e.g. Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Metashape, Blender, databases) and graphic documentation
  • Ideally knowledge of relevant software for the documentation of findings, mapping and plan creation (especially GIS, QGIS and CAD programmes)
  • Practical experience in working with databases (e.g. Excel, Access, Filemaker, SPSS) is an advantage
  • Very good knowledge of German and English
  • Driving licence B
  • Willingness to undergo regular specialised further training. Interest in current professional and technological developments in the documentation sector
  • Independent, structured, flexible and responsible working style
  • Strong organisational and coordination skills
  • Communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to work closely with institute staff and students
