Tenure Track Position according to § 99 (5) Universities Act for Sleep Medicine

at the University Clinic for Neurology of the Medical University of Innsbruck

The Medical University of Innsbruck, located in the heart of the Austrian Alps, is the largest and most important medical research and education facility in the West of Austria. We currently teach and train over 3,600 students in seven Bachelor-, Master- and Doctoral Programs, most of them in medicine. A dedicated staff of more than 2,200 employees covers all relevant fields from basic research to clinical sciences.

The successful applicant initially concludes an employment contract for a fixed term of six years and, following a positive outcome of the procedure, a qualification agreement. Once it has been established that the qualification agreement has been fulfilled on the basis of a positive evaluation, the contract is converted into an employment contract for an indefinite period.

Your profile

Requirements

  • PhD or comparable qualification relevant to the field
  • completed specialist training in neurology, meeting the requirements for acceptance into the list of medical doctors of the Austrian Medical Association
  • excellent research and publication activity in the specific research field
  • experience in designing and acquiring third-party funded research projects
  • university teaching experience and willingness to engage in teaching and further developing the subject area
  • willingness to participate in interdisciplinary and translationally oriented research in the field of circadian rhythms
  • potential to head an independent scientific research group
  • experience in the field of sleep disorders
  • experience in planning, conducting, and evaluating clinical trials
  • close international networking in neurological sleep medicine and sleep research
  • German language skills, minimum level B2 according to the European reference framework

Your main task

  • academic teaching and supervising students within the different university programs
  • the establishment of a research group in the field of human sleep medicine and sleep research
  • acquisition and management of nationally and internationally funded research projects
  • organization of intervention studies for patients with sleep disorders and sleep-wake disorders
  • interdisciplinary collaboration with various research groups in neurology, pulmonology (cardiology) and psychiatry (among other), as well as the establishment of translational research collaborations with groups at MUI and other universities
  • innovative advancement of research into sleep disorders
  • co-head and expansion (and prospective head) of the research group on sleep disorders at the Medical University of Innsbruck

The current position (full-time employment) commences with a 6-year contract based on a mutually accorded qualification agreement. If the qualification goals are met following a positive evaluation, the contract can be extended indefinitely with the job title of associate professor.

A salary based on group B1 (or A2 after fulfilment of a qualification agreement based on a positive evaluation) of the collective contract (Universitätskollektivvertrag) for Austrian university employees.

Non-EU citizens must fulfil the relevant Austrian legal requirements regarding residence and work permits.
