Software Development Engineer, EC2 Gateway Networking

Amazon Web Services is seeking a software engineer to address cutting-edge networking challenges at AWS scale. This role is within the EC2 Networking organization, focusing on enhancing features for the Internet Gateway (IGW), a vital component of EC2's Virtual Private Cloud (VPC).

As a tier zero Amazon service, our solutions must be scalable, efficient, and fault-tolerant. You will influence service direction, design, plan, and implement new features and improvements, with a strong emphasis on security. Operating globally, we enable customers to build highly available systems worldwide.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, eagerness to learn, and a desire to make a broad impact through their work.

Key job responsibilities

  • Operate autonomously, delivering projects at the team level and collaborating with other teams.
  • Design, develop, and test software components independently, seeking input from senior engineers when needed.
  • Mentor new team members and contribute to code and operations reviews.
  • Solve complex technical problems, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver maintainable solutions.

A day in the life

This role involves designing components and services for new features, reviewing team members' code, writing complex code, analyzing operational issues, providing updates to leadership, and estimating upcoming deliverables.

Minimum requirements

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in system design or architecture, focusing on reliability and scalability.
  • Experience programming in at least one software language.
  • 3+ years of full software development lifecycle experience, including coding standards, reviews, source control, testing, and operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.

Compensation varies by geographic market, ranging from $129,300 to $223,600 annually, based on experience and location. Additional benefits and total compensation details are available on our website.
