Position Overview

The Skytraders Maintenance Planning Manager plays a critical role in overseeing the maintenance operations of the Skytraders fleet, ensuring optimal aircraft availability and operational efficiency. This position involves managing maintenance activities, supervising the maintenance planning team, and collaborating with senior management to align maintenance strategies with business goals.

The primary goal of the Maintenance Planning Manager is to maintain the highest standards of safety and efficiency, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and industry regulations. Through the effective management of maintenance activities, this role significantly contributes to the company's reliability and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities in the role will include:

  • Strategic Maintenance Oversight: Lead and manage the coordination of remedial actions for aircraft on the ground (AOG), maintenance operations, deferred defects and resolving emergent issues to minimise disruptions to the flight schedule.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise the maintenance planning team, providing guidance, support, and training to ensure high performance and professional development.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with other managers and senior management to align maintenance activities with business goals. This includes regular communication with maintenance teams, flight crews, and other stakeholders to keep all parties informed of operational statuses and changes.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvements in maintenance planning and reliability by implementing data-driven strategies to predict future maintenance needs and optimise resource allocation.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities comply with aviation industry regulations and standards, staying updated with regulatory changes and implementing necessary adjustments.
  • Emergency Response: Contribute to the response of in-flight or ground emergencies, coordinating with relevant teams to resolve issues and maintain safety.
  • Long & Short-Term Planning: Oversee long and short-term maintenance planning, including tasks, logistics requirements, and manpower for the Skytraders Fleet.
  • Coordination with MROs: Manage relationships with third-party MROs for quoting and scheduling maintenance events, and coordinate with the Skytraders Engineering Manager for maintenance conducted under the Skytraders Certificate of Approval.
  • Work Package Management: Oversee the creation, review, and processing of maintenance work packages in the Maintenance Information System (MIS) database, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Database Compliance: Conduct and oversee reviews of the MIS database to ensure compliance with the aircraft System of Maintenance, Airworthiness Directives, and mandatory requirements.
  • Discrepancies and ICA: Address maintenance record discrepancies and schedule Service Bulletins, Engineering Orders, and Airworthiness Directives in collaboration with assigned Technical Engineers.
  • Supplier Coordination: Manage supplier and OEM relationships for necessary spares and component repairs/overhauls.
  • Data Accuracy: Ensure accurate entry and updating of aircraft hours, cycles, and defects in the MIS database.
  • Aircraft Monitoring: Supervise the monitoring of aircraft status to ensure timely and effective maintenance execution.
  • Problem Solving: Lead the resolution of issues impacting flight schedules or operational safety.
  • Resource Management: Oversee the procurement and allocation of manpower for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
  • Reporting and Communication: Regularly report to senior management on operational status, highlighting successes and areas for improvement, and preparing detailed reports on maintenance activities and challenges.
  • Team Leadership: Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment, providing leadership and support to the technical staff.

Qualifications and Attributes

The Maintenance Planning Manager will have demonstrated qualifications, experience, knowledge and attributes in the following areas:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as aviation management, science or engineering, or, Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) background.
  • Extensive experience in aviation maintenance planning and operations.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of aviation industry regulations and standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with diverse teams.
  • Ability to engage managers, employees and external parties on engineering activities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) and represent the company to external parties.
  • Project / time management capability and delivering to defined outcome requirements.

Reporting

The Maintenance Planning Manager functionally reports to the Head of Airworthiness or such other person as the Company may reasonably stipulate from time to time.
