Your future responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced research engineer leading the development of ion‑trap chips (ITCs) at SAL. You will become part of a highly motivated, international team committed to realizing the building blocks of next generation quantum technology. Your work will be embedded in an international collaborative network.

• Coordinate ITC development and fabrication across different research units and cleanroom facilities.
• Execute small‑scale fabrication and prototype for ITC devices in cleanroom facilities utilizing 200 mm wafer‑level technology.
• Coordinate testing of developed ITC devices.
• Co‑develop the design, fabrication and technological advancement of ion trap chips.
• Perform quality control and documentation for the statistical process control.
• Communicate and report research findings to both scientific and non‑scientific audiences.
• Communicate and align with industry and academic partners.
• Project management.
• R&D project acquisition.

Your profile

• PhD in physics, quantum technology, electronics engineering or similar.
• 3+ years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing and trapped‑ion quantum technology.
• Experience in industrial environment is an asset.
• Proficiency in English. German or willingness to learn is an asset.
• Motivated team player with good communication skills.
• Willingness to relocate to Austria / Villach.
• Willingness to travel.
