Job Description:

OMICRON is a leading manufacturer of primary and secondary test equipment for electric power systems. The role of Senior Application Engineer – Protection will be responsible for supporting technical sales and providing technical support of OMICRON products and their applications for our customers in the Asia region. The position is to be in one of our OMICRON Service Centers in Asia (e.g., Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore or Seoul) and will be reporting to Regional Manager, Asia.

Your responsibilities

• Provide product consultation, training, and support on OMICRON products with the emphasis on protective relay and scheme testing, power system protection, automation and control, IEC 61850 DSS Testing, instrument transformer testing, metering, and transmission & distribution applications theory to our customer base.
• Have direct involvement with power system protection & communications schemes in the generation, transmission & distribution areas along with knowledge of metering and reclosers.
• Take care of all technical requests of our customers in Asia with the emphasis on Korea – by telephone or e-mail.
• Work independently or together with your colleagues on answering all application queries for our products.
• Assist our clients in the practical application and integration of our test equipment. Support our regional sales team by actively conducting customer trainings and on-site product demos and participating.
• Actively participate in trade fairs, seminars, trade shows and workshops; and support our sales and marketing team with your technical knowledge.
• Document and observe customer and market requirements to further develop our products.
• Provide technical and application support to customers for OMICRON products and services, particularly for secondary testing equipment.
• Publish application guides, notes, template guides, software tools, and/or technical conference papers.
• Assist in developing, maintaining and improving customer relationships with help of Customer Relationship Management tools (CRM).
• Carry out customer engineering services, particularly related to secondary testing.
• Support our regional application specialist and product management with your ideas to improve our innovative solutions; you will translate market requirements into technical specifications.
• Keep abreast of industry standards and best practices in protection relay engineering.

Your profile

• Minimum 8 to 10 years of relevant working experience, preferred in the power industry and hands-on experience testing protective relays.
• You have good knowledge of power system substations, generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power.
• Having knowledge of protection, automation and control systems and experiences with electrical diagnostic tests of high voltage apparatus would be added advantages.
• You have a good knowledge of English; proficiency in more languages (e.g., Korean, Chinese or Japanese) will help you in your work.
• Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
• Experience with relay testing equipment and software.
• You have a precise, reliable, and autonomous working style.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• You want your enthusiasm for technology to connect with your job.
• You are flexible, and would enjoy travelling to other countries (50% travelling).

Education

You have a bachelor’s degree/ master’s degree in electrical engineering or relevant experience.
