Lead the Transformation of Australia’s Largest Christian Retailer

Koorong is undergoing a significant transformation—reimagining our stores, evolving our brand, and shaping the future of Christian retail in Australia. With over 45 years of heritage and more than 15 physical locations and a significant online business, we are now seeking a dynamic and visionary Head of Retail to take the reins of our store network, ecommerce operations, cafes, and store development strategy.

Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a rare opportunity to join a new and growing leadership team and make a meaningful impact—fast. We’re looking for a transformational leader who combines strategic thinking with hands-on retail expertise and thrives on creating supportive team experiences that span retail operations.

This role will be instrumental in delivering operational excellence, improving commercial performance, and creating a new chapter for Koorong retail.

Your Responsibilities:

1. Oversee and lead the day-to-day operations of Koorong’s national store network, ecommerce platform, in-store cafes, and future retail development projects.
2. Drive commercial outcomes through strong budget management, P&L accountability, labour controls, and performance analytics.
3. Partner with the CEO and broader leadership team to build a retail capability model and deliver budgets aligned with strategic transformation goals.
4. Design and deliver a store-of-the-future roadmap, including store format innovation, customer experience design, and digital integration.
5. Lead retail change initiatives from concept through to execution—bringing energy, speed, and clear communication.
6. Inspire and coach a team of faithful retail leaders and team members across Australia.
7. Collaborate cross-functionally with Buying, Marketing, Supply Chain, Technology, and Finance to deliver seamless customer and team experiences.
8. Be a visible cultural leader—sharing stories, celebrating wins, and bringing our mission to life at every level of the business.

About You:

1. A committed Christian, aligned with the mission and values of Koorong.
2. Proven experience in a senior omnichannel retail leadership role.
3. Experience working in medium-sized retail enterprises and demonstrated ability to manage and drive growth across multiple stores.
4. A dedicated leader who invests time and effort in nurturing their team and attentively addresses the business's needs.
5. Exceptional leadership and change management capability, with a track record of delivering transformational results at pace.
6. Strong understanding of retail operations including store development, workforce planning, labour efficiency, and customer experience journey flow.
7. Commercially astute with strong budgeting, forecasting, and reporting skills.
8. Excellent communicator and storyteller—capable of inspiring teams, influencing peers, and presenting clearly at all levels.
9. Has full Australian working rights.
