Qualifications

Summary

As a Senior Consultant in Trauma Surgery, you will be among the most experienced surgeons in the department, overseeing complex trauma care and guiding the clinical decisions of other consultants and junior doctors. You will provide leadership in the management of critically injured patients, direct trauma teams during emergencies, and play a key role in shaping trauma services at HMC. Beyond patient care, you will contribute to departmental strategy, service development, and workforce planning. You will also engage in academic teaching, mentorship, and research, reinforcing HMC’s vision as an Academic Health System. Education/Qualifications Required:
  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    1. Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
      1. USA: American Board of Surgery (ABS) – General Surgery with fellowship in Trauma/Critical Care or Acute Care Surgery
      2. Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) – General Surgery with fellowship in Trauma or Acute Care Surgery
      3. UK & Ireland: CCT in General Surgery with subspecialty fellowship in Trauma Surgery and GMC Specialist Register
      4. Australia & New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) – Trauma or Acute Care Surgery
      5. Western Europe: Equivalent board certification
Experience Post-Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Consultant in Trauma Surgery
  • Minimum 1 year of senior experience
License:
  • Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.

Job Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Provide senior leadership in the clinical management of polytrauma and critically injured patients.
  • Oversee Consultants, Specialists, Residents, and Fellows, guiding their clinical decision-making and professional development.
  • Lead trauma resuscitation teams and surgical interventions in high-pressure, complex scenarios.
  • Contribute to departmental strategy, including service development, staffing, and resource planning.
  • Develop and implement trauma protocols, clinical guidelines, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Represent the trauma service in national and international forums, conferences, and collaborations.
  • Mentor and train the next generation of surgeons, with responsibility for advanced training and academic supervision.
  • Lead research initiatives, publications, and innovation in trauma and acute care surgery.
  • Participate in on-call duties, providing senior oversight during major incidents and mass casualty events.
  • Promote excellence in patient safety, clinical outcomes, and evidence-based trauma care.
