Job summary

Qatar Steel Company is seeking a Technical Maintenance Supervisor to oversee planning, scheduling and execution of maintenance activities across the plant. You will ensure efficient use of manpower, tools, and materials while maintaining strict safety standards and regulatory compliance.

The role requires strong coordination across departments, supervision of teams and contractors, and robust data recording for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Technical Diploma from a recognized professional body.
  • 5-6 years' work experience in Mechanical repair / Finishing Shop.

Job description

Technical Maintenance Activities
  • Monitoring all manpower routine activities, emergency breakdowns, Operational Stoppages, monthly schedule repairs and yearly major repairs, in order to ensure that the manpower should be effectively utilized on every task.
  • Implement both planned and unplanned changes to scheduled activities in order to ensure operational efficiency is maximised
  • Run regular meetings with other agencies to ensure all maintenance activities and events are properly coordinated and communicated.
  • Control the activities of the Finishing in order to ensure that all shop maintenance work should be carried out on its time in the most efficient and safe manner, ensuring compliance to all applicable work instructions/procedures and taking corrective action on appropriate manner
  • Coordinate with other Departments and outside agencies (e.g., equipment suppliers) and maintain close relationship in order to exchange information, resolve problems and ensure the continuous smooth running of maintenance section operations that meet corporate needs
  • Organize and supervise the work of the assigned team to ensure that all work within a specific area of the activity is carried out in an efficient manner, which is consistent with operating procedures and policy.
  • Carryout survey during shutdowns and ensure all the activities are done by QS team and contractors as planned and record the actual time taken to accomplish the work to compare it with the schedule and judge the status of the work at each stage.
  • Comply to duties assigned by superiors to ensure that plant, equipment, and process are operated efficiently and safely.
Planning
  • Plan for annual repairs and scheduled maintenance jobs in order to ensure that all tools, equipment, materials and manpower are available at the right time in order to make optimal use of shutdown / off-line time
  • Supervise the planned shutdown mechanical job list and communicate them to the maintenance and operation sections, ensuring co-ordination on all maintenance activities.
Budgeting & Inventory Control
  • Support in preparation of required annual budget that accurately enable effective cost management
  • Control the monthly consumption figures (Material and Services) for mechanical to be in line with the approved budget.
  • Supervise and ensure update of the record management systems to manage inventory holding including its costs andto ensure that minimum stock is available all the time without unnecessary duplication.
  • Supervise the shift schedule and control the attendance to endure that manpower and overtime costs are optimized.
Data Recording and Analysis
  • Daily review to the daily records of inspection results and perform data analysis in specified log sheets in order to ensure that plant and equipment data is available and well analysed.
  • Inspect check sheets and sign the data sheets to ensure accurate filament.
  • Manage logbooks, equipment histories, drawings and other documentation in line with standard requirements.
  • Ensure all the data records follow relevant certifications such as ISO-9001, 14001, 45001 etc.
Reporting
  • Report all findings with recommendations to the section engineer and in order to ensure appropriate remedial action and / or planning of future maintenance activity.
  • Review the items to be included in the major shutdown and bring to the attention of the supervisor the critical items in order to ensure planned shutdown time is used effectively.
  • Prepare accurate statements and reports to meet department requirements, policies, and quality standards.
  • Support in documentation of processes and procedures for internal and external auditing.
Health, Safety & Environment
  • Confirm compliance with all relevant safety, health and environmental procedures and raise any of HSE concerns and incidents to HSE with the recommended actions to ensure safe work practices and environment and to achieve corporate Zero Incident Objectives.
  • Check and continuously review operating and safety standards and procedures (HIRA/PTW/LOTO/TBT . . . etc) in EFCC area, updating and modifying as appropriate under the direction of the Maintenance Engineer
  • Review the reported observations in the monthly safety activities in the department including HES safety patrol, MRM, fire drill and environment audit and confirm its closing action plan in order to ensure any HES operating issues are understood and appropriate corrective action is taken
Policies, Processes and Procedures:
  • Continuously review operating and safety standards and procedures, updating and modifying as appropriate under the direction of the Maintenance Engineer
  • Follows and ensure all relevant operating, safety, environment, and quality policies, processes, standard operating procedures and work instructions in the section so that work is carried out in a controlled and effective manner.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum Technical Diploma from a recognized professional body.
Minimum Experience:
  • 5-6 years' work experience in Mechanical repair / Finishing Shop
