Job summary

QatarEnergy seeks an experienced Environmental Engineer to lead environmental engineering and compliance for onshore power projects.

You will provide technical input across design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and ensure adherence to regulatory standards, with emphasis on HSE studies and environmental management plans.

The role requires strong communication, coordination with authorities, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a demanding industrial setting in Qatar.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of experience in environmental engineering within the power generation industry.
• Experience with environmental studies such as EIA, HAZID, ENVID, HIRA and dispersion modelling.
• Strong knowledge of international environmental regulations, industry best practices and company standards.
• Experience developing and reviewing Environmental Management Plans (CEMP), Waste Management Plans and Oil Spill Response Plans.

Job description

Primary Purpose of the Job

Responsible for environmental engineering and compliance activities associated with onshore greenfield and brownfield project scopes. Provides technical input across detailed engineering design, procurement, installation, construction, and commissioning of onshore facilities to ensure full adherence to applicable environmental standards and regulatory requirements, particularly for power generation & associated projects.

Required Experience and Skills

• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in environmental engineering within the power generation industry, either with a power generation company or as part of a consultant/contractor team, preferably on major greenfield projects.
• Experience managing and coordinating environmental interfaces with third parties and external authorities.
• Experience developing and endorsing environmental/HSE specifications and participating in HSE/Environmental studies such as HAZID, EIA, ENVID, HIRA, and dispersion/modelling studies.
• Strong knowledge of international environmental regulations, industry best practices, and company specifications/standards.
• Experience developing and reviewing Operational or Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP), Waste Management Plans (WMP), Oil Spill Prevention and Response Plans, and related environmental procedures.
• Familiarity with environmental impact assessment of process systems during drilling, construction, transportation, installation, commissioning, operation, and decommissioning.
• Experience assessing environmental risks related to decommissioning, abandonment, and demolition of existing facilities.
• Strong communication, presentation, and conflict management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining oversight of critical technical issues and risks.
• Ability to identify technical issues and elevate them appropriately to project management.
• Strong teamwork, collaboration, problem‑solving, and decision‑making capabilities.
• Ability to identify engineering risks and develop appropriate mitigation plans to ensure project success.

Educational Qualifications

• B.Sc. in Environmental Engineering or Chemical Engineering from a recognized university.
• Membership in a recognized professional engineering or HSE association/institution is preferred.
