Job description

Primary Purpose of the Job

  1. To provide legal advice and opinions regarding the procurement of goods and services or tenders of the client, its subsidiaries, affiliates, or Qatar state-owned entities.
  2. To negotiate procurement contracts such as EPIC, FEED, Drilling, Wells services, Oil Field Tools, Maintenance, Spare parts, Turnaround, MSA, Framework, Inspection, Consultancy, IT, and general goods and services contracts.
  3. To provide general commercial legal advice on a wide range of operational matters including leases, infrastructure, and operational contracts as assigned by the Associate General Counsel or Head Counsel, in accordance with policies and applicable laws and regulations, always prioritizing the best interests of the client.
  4. To contribute to continuous improvement within the department by: enhancing model contracts, creating guidance materials, training colleagues, developing digital tools, and simplifying workflows.
Educational Qualifications
  • Juris Doctorate, Bachelor of Law, or equivalent from a recognized university; postgraduate studies or a master's degree in law are preferred.
  • Civil law background is preferred but not mandatory; additional experience in common law, particularly in drafting contracts, is advantageous.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English.
Experience
  • Strong legal drafting and writing skills in English.
  • Minimum of 12 years of legal and contracts experience across the practice areas listed above.
  • Experience in the upstream and downstream oil and gas industry.
  • Experience in engineering and construction industries is highly advantageous.
  • Experience with land matters and property law in industrial oil/gas/chemical complexes, refineries, LNG plants, including land leases, corridor licenses, pipeline crossings, and infrastructure agreements, is a plus.
