Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure a tidy workplace in the Chemistry Lab
• Demonstrated proficiency in operating, troubleshooting and interpreting results from advanced analytical instruments: GC, Gas Chromatography, GC-MS, Gas Chromatography-MassSpectrometry, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, Inductively Coupled Plasma, TOC, Total Organic Carbon Analyzer
• Proficient in water and soil testing with strong skills in data interpretation and result accuracy
• Familiar with quality system requirements including method validation, calibration, traceability uncertainty estimation and technical documentation
• Maintain a list of inventory of the equipment of the Chemistry Department and ensure good working conditions and adequate space allocation for this equipment
• Check the test report and assist in the preparation of the reports
• Analyze chemical compounds or substances
• Conduct quality control tests on construction materials
• Maintain laboratory instruments to ensure proper working order and troubleshoot malfunctions when needed
• Supervise chemical lab technicians and train them on different tests as per the standards
• Resolve issues involving other departments as they relate to the Chemistry Lab
• Prepare test solutions, compounds or reagents for laboratory personnel to conduct tests
• Evaluate laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with standards or make improvements as needed
• Monitor operational procedures in technical environments to ensure conformance to standards

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or related discipline
• Minimum 7 years of experience in environmental chemical analysis laboratories
• Experience with Shimadzu analytical instruments
• Knowledge of laboratory safety and chemical handling procedures
• Strong knowledge of USEPA, ASTM, ISO and APHA analytical methods
