Responsibilities

  • Conduct client consultations and assessments to understand health and fitness background, goals, and barriers.

Job description

The Personal Trainer is responsible for delivering exceptional fitness coaching experiences that support clients in achieving their health, wellness, performance, and lifestyle goals.

The role requires a highly professional fitness specialist who can assess client needs, design evidence based training programs, deliver engaging coaching sessions, monitor progress, and build strong long term client relationships.

The Personal Trainer will act as a representative of the organization's brand standards by delivering premium coaching services, maintaining professional conduct, contributing to client retention, and supporting the growth of the Personal Training department.

The successful candidate must demonstrate strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, a passion for fitness, and the ability to deliver a high quality coaching experience tailored to individual client needs.

Key Responsibilities-
1. Client Assessment & Consultation

Conduct comprehensive client consultations to understand:

  • Health and fitness background.
  • Training history.
  • Lifestyle factors.
  • Goals and expectations.
  • Barriers and challenges.
  • Exercise preferences.

Perform appropriate fitness assessments, including:

  • Body composition analysis.
  • Movement screening.
  • Mobility assessments.
  • Strength and endurance assessments.
  • Cardiovascular fitness assessments.

Use assessment data to develop personalised training recommendations.

Establish clear objectives, realistic expectations, and measurable outcomes for each client.

2. Personal Training Delivery

Deliver safe, effective, and engaging one to one and small group training sessions.

Apply evidence based exercise principles to program design and coaching delivery.

Demonstrate excellent technical execution of exercises and provide effective coaching cues.

Adapt training programmes based on client progress, feedback, and individual needs.

Ensure all sessions are delivered professionally, on time, and according to company standards.

Create a positive, motivating, and supportive training environment.

Maintain high levels of client engagement and session quality.

3. Programme Design & Exercise Prescription

Develop personalised training programmes based on:

  • Client goals.
  • Fitness level.
  • Training history.
  • Physical limitations.
  • Performance objectives.

Apply principles of:

  • Progressive overload.
  • Periodisation.
  • Strength development.
  • Cardiovascular conditioning.
  • Mobility training.
  • Corrective exercise.
  • Functional training.

Regularly review and update programmes to ensure continued progression.

4. Client Progress Tracking & Reporting

Maintain accurate client records, including:

  • Training history.
  • Programme progression.
  • Assessment results.
  • Body composition changes.
  • Performance improvements.

Conduct regular progress reviews with clients.

Provide professional feedback and recommendations.

Utilise available technology and systems to monitor client outcomes.

5. Client Relationship Management & Retention

Build strong professional relationships with clients through:

  • Effective communication.
  • Accountability.
  • Motivation.
  • Consistent support.

Proactively engage clients outside scheduled sessions when appropriate.

Identify opportunities to improve client satisfaction and retention.

Encourage long term commitment to health and fitness goals.

Deliver an exceptional customer experience aligned with company standards.

6. Personal Training Sales Support

Support the growth of the Personal Training department by:

  • Conducting fitness consultations.
  • Converting prospects into Personal Training clients.
  • Communicating the value of Personal Training services.
  • Supporting membership and PT sales initiatives.

Participate in:

  • Client introductions.
  • Facility tours.
  • Fitness events.
  • Promotional activities.

Maintain awareness of commercial objectives and contribute towards departmental targets.

7. Professional Standards & Brand Representation

Maintain a professional appearance and uphold company grooming standards.

Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Represent the organisation positively at all times.

Maintain ethical coaching practices and professional boundaries.

Continue professional development through education and industry learning.

Stay updated with current fitness trends, research, and best practices.

8. Facility & Operational Responsibilities

Maintain cleanliness and organisation of training areas.

Follow health and safety procedures.

Ensure equipment is used correctly and responsibly.

Report equipment issues or safety concerns promptly.

Follow company policies, procedures, and operational standards.

Complete required administrative tasks accurately and on time.

Skills
Required Qualifications-

Essential:

  • Recognized Personal Training certification from an accredited organization, such as:
    • NASM Certified Personal Trainer (CPT)
    • ACSM Certified Personal Trainer
    • NSCA Certified Personal Trainer
    • ACE Personal Trainer
    • REPs recognized certification
  • Valid CPR/AED certification.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Anatomy and physiology.
    • Exercise programming.
    • Resistance training.
    • Cardiovascular training.
    • Mobility and flexibility.
    • Client coaching principles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in:
    • Sport Science.

  • Additional certifications preferred:
    • NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES)

    • Mobility/Flexibility Certification
    • Olympic Weightlifting Certification
    • Functional Training Certification
    • Sports Massage or Recovery Certification

Required Experience:

  • Previous experience delivering Personal Training sessions.
  • Experience coaching diverse client populations.
  • Experience designing personalised training programmes.
  • Experience conducting fitness assessments and consultations.
  • Experience working within a premium fitness environment is preferred.
