Job summary

Nakilat is seeking an HR professional to support marine personnel across vessels under its control. You will ensure qualifications, certificates, and development plans are in place, and manage the officer database, training scheduling, and recruitment screening.

The role requires a degree in Business Admin/HR and 3–6 years' experience in shipping or a related industry, with strong HR knowledge, world geography basics, and familiarity with port and airport hubs.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain an updated Relief Plan for officers up to one year in advance
  • Organize travel arrangements for officers to join and leave vessels
  • Ensure officers meet training/documentary requirements per company policies and ship registry laws
  • Review appraisal reports and follow up on training needs and disciplinary matters
  • Establish and monitor personal development plans for officers
  • Coordinate with training section on scheduling courses for personnel
  • Maintain applicant database and perform initial screening
  • Maintain personnel and vessel files for salaries and records per policies

Job description

Support the activities of the marine personnel who are on vessels wholly owned by the organization as defined within the in-house safety management system of NAKILAT. Ensure that the company vessels that are under their control are manned by properly qualified, experienced and competent personnel.

Key Accountabilities:
  • 1. Establish and maintain an updated and comprehensive Relief Plan up to one year in advance for all officers who are going offshore.
  • 2. Organize travel arrangements for the officers to join and leave the vessels. If required, the person can also take the advice of third parties such as port agents and travel agents.
  • 3. Ensure that the officers at all times satisfy the training and documentary requirements as per the policies and procedures of the company and the legal requirements of the ship’s registry. E.g. - Flag and National Certificates of Competency, Special Qualification Certificates. Ensure that all this data is recorded in an agreed format.
  • 4. Review the appraisal reports for all officers and follow-up on recommended actions with regards to performance management. E.g. - Identification of training needs, disciplinary matters.
  • 5. Establish a personal development plan for all the officers and monitor the same on a continuous basis.
  • 6. Liaise with the training section on scheduling training courses for personnel under their responsibility.
  • 7. Maintain a database of applicants and undertake initial screening of applicants.
  • 8. Maintain all personnel and vessels files necessary to accurately record, document, certify, train and for payment of salaries as per the company policies and standards.
Qualifications, Experience and Job Skills
Qualifications:
  • Degree in Business Administration/Human Resources or any other related field. Knowledge of shipping HR related legislation will be looked upon favorably (STCW/MLC)
Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 - 6 years’ experience in a medium to large sized company
Job Specific Skills:
  • Reasonable amount of understanding of the Maritime industry and the extensive amount of legal requirements pertaining to sea staff employment
  • Good knowledge of HR principles and practices
  • Good knowledge of world geography including major ports and supporting airports
