Children: Elementary and High School Age
A private family in Qatar is looking for an experienced, engaging and highly organised Governess / Academic Mentor to support and oversee the education of children across elementary and high school levels.
The role is suited to someone who can combine *academic support, mentoring, organisation and educational planning. The successful candidate should be confident working independently, keeping track of multiple school schedules and taking initiative when additional academic or enrichment support is needed.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the children’s day-to-day academic responsibilities, including homework, assignments, projects and test preparation.
- Monitor grades, school progress and important academic deadlines.
- Provide tutoring and academic support across suitable subjects.
- Identify areas where additional support is required and coordinate specialist tutors when necessary.
- Develop effective study routines, revision plans and organisational systems.
- Encourage independence, accountability and stronger study habits.
- Communicate with teachers, tutors and school staff when appropriate.
- Keep parents updated on academic progress, concerns and upcoming requirements.
High School, SAT & University Preparation
For the older students, the Governess will also support longer-term academic planning, including:
- Organising and overseeing *SAT preparation*.
- Tracking examination dates, registration deadlines and preparation progress.
- Researching suitable universities, courses and academic pathways.
- Keeping track of application requirements and deadlines.
- Supporting personal statements, essays and other application materials.
- Researching internships, summer courses, volunteering opportunities and extracurricular programmes.
- Helping students build strong academic and extracurricular profiles.
- Coordinating with school counsellors, admissions consultants and external tutors as required.
Elementary Support & Enrichment
For the younger child, the role will include creating a supportive and engaging learning environment through:
- Age-appropriate educational activities.
- Creative projects and learning-based activities.
- Researching workshops, classes, museums, exhibitions and other educational experiences.
- Encouraging curiosity, confidence and independent learning.
- Supporting good routines around homework and school organisation.
Organisation & Planning
The successful candidate should be comfortable acting as the central point of organisation for the children’s education by:
- Maintaining academic calendars.
- Tracking assignments, exams, school events and extracurricular commitments.
- Planning ahead for busy academic periods.
- Making sure important deadlines are not missed.
- Coordinating additional support when required.
- Helping the children balance academics, extracurricular commitments and downtime.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced as a *Governess, Private Tutor, Teacher, Academic Mentor or Private Educator*.
- Degree educated, preferably with a teaching or education background.
- Confident working with both elementary and high school students.
- Familiar with SAT preparation and university application processes.
- Highly organised and able to manage several children’s schedules at once.
- Proactive, resourceful and comfortable taking initiative.
- Positive and encouraging while maintaining clear expectations and boundaries.
- Comfortable communicating with teenagers as well as younger children.
- Professional, discreet, dependable and adaptable.
