Job summary

Greycoat Lumleys in Qatar seeks an experienced Governess/ Academic Mentor to support and oversee the education of children from elementary to high school. The role combines academic tutoring, mentoring, organisation and educational planning, with independence and initiative.

Responsibilities include overseeing homework, tracking grades, coordinating with tutors, planning study routines, SAT prep, university applications, and communicating with teachers and parents.

Qualifications

• Degree educated, preferably with a teaching or education background.
• Confident working with both elementary and high school students.
• Familiar with SAT preparation and university application processes.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the children’s day-to-day academic responsibilities, including homework, assignments, projects and test preparation.
• Monitor grades, school progress and important academic deadlines.
• Provide tutoring and academic support across suitable subjects.
• Identify areas where additional support is required and coordinate specialist tutors when necessary.
• Develop effective study routines, revision plans and organisational systems.
• Encourage independence, accountability and stronger study habits.
• Communicate with teachers, tutors and school staff when appropriate.
• Keep parents updated on academic progress, concerns and upcoming requirements.
• Organising and overseeing SAT preparation and university application processes.
• Tracking examination dates, registration deadlines and preparation progress.
• Coordinating with school counsellors, admissions consultants and external tutors as required.
• Age-appropriate educational activities and enrichment for younger children.
• Researching workshops, classes, museums and other educational experiences.
• Maintaining academic calendars and tracking assignments, exams and events.
• Planning ahead for busy academic periods and deadlines.
