Specialist Qualification in one of the following :

  • Sports & Exercise Medicine or
  • PMR - Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation or

ACGME / ACGME-I accredited core specialty and Sports Medicine Added Qualification (CAQ) / equivalent

Ex: Core Speciality in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Orthopaedic Surgery, or Internal Medicine + 1 Year Sports Medicine Fellowship.

Licensing & Membership :

Must hold a valid home-country license as a physician (unrestricted)

Experience :

Total of 12-15 years, including 5+ years in clinical sports medicine.

Skills :

Highly skilled in diagnosing and managing sports injuries, pre-competition assessment, and evaluating readiness for participation. This includes managing medical conditions such as infections, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and cardiac issues, within the athletic context.

Report to : Chief of Sports Medicine.

Role Overview

The role involves both reactive and proactive care of athletes and non-athletes through outpatient services, screening, and participation in the National Sports Medicine Program (NSMP). The position also contributes to developing sports medicine services across Qatar.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide diagnosis and treatment of sports-related injuries and illnesses.
  2. Educate and counsel athletes, supporting recovery and resilience.
  3. Order and interpret diagnostic tests.
  4. Prescribe medications responsibly, considering doping regulations.
  5. Offer nutritional guidance for rehabilitation and performance.
  6. Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams and oversee rehabilitation.
  7. Create tailored exercise programs for post-recovery conditioning.
  8. Facilitate return-to-play decisions.
  9. Maintain accurate medical records.
  10. Conduct pre-participation evaluations.
  11. Communicate with coaches and trainers about athlete health.
  12. Provide onsite medical coverage during sports events.
  13. Develop emergency response procedures.
  14. Participate in research on injury prevention and treatment.
  15. Engage in professional development and departmental education.
  16. Support clinical service development and mentorship.
  17. Perform additional duties as assigned.
