Job description

Overview

Responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising logging operations for QatarEnergy-operated offshore oilfields, including open and cased hole logs. Develop cost-effective and comprehensive data acquisition plans for ongoing drilling, workover operations, and reservoir surveillance activities. Provide quick petrophysical analysis for appropriate completion strategies during drilling and generate detailed post-operation petrophysical interpretations and reports for the reservoir management team. Support the Studies team regularly and ensure timely delivery of high-quality data from service providers for corporate archives. Be an active and supportive member of the interdisciplinary reservoir management team.

Experience
Principal Accountabilities
  1. Plan and supervise acquisition of IS field logging operations; analyze and interpret petrophysical and formation evaluation data from new appraisal, development, and infill wells. Geo-steer horizontal and highly deviated wells to meet reservoir targets. Provide petrophysical input into integrated reservoir and field development studies for subsurface model building and updates.
  2. Develop petrophysical models to characterize reservoir fluids for 3D geostatic/reservoir simulation modeling and field development planning, capturing and understanding uncertainty ranges.
  3. Contribute to and integrate petrophysical and formation evaluation inputs into short-term (drill/replacement well projects, workover operations) medium-term (reservoir voidage management), and long-term (field development and asset optimization) activities.
  4. Characterize reservoir fluid types, saturation, and distribution to identify and recommend new or replacement drill and workover targets for producers, injectors, and observers to optimize field development.
  5. Integrate open and cased hole logs, core routine, and SCAL data to better characterize reservoir and fluid properties.
  6. Ensure QA/QC of petrophysical data and maintain petrophysical databases, including real-time data links.
Context / Special Features / Challenges
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, with at least 10 years specializing in petrophysical operations surveillance and interpretation.
  • Thorough understanding of open hole (wireline and LWD), cased hole (pulsed neutron and integrity logs), and production logging tools in vertical and deviated wells.
  • Experience with complex carbonate reservoirs, especially in mature and highly fractured reservoirs.
  • Proficiency in borehole image processing and interpretation.
  • Strong teamwork skills and experience in multicultural environments.
  • Deep knowledge of processing and quality control workflows for wireline and LWD tools across multiple vendors, including Sonic, NMR, image, and formation testing, applicable to both new wells and legacy data. Experience in fracture analysis using image logs.
  • Effective communication skills with peers, less experienced staff, field staff, and management.
  • Good knowledge of wellbore completion technology and reservoir engineering concepts.
  • Experience in field studies is highly advantageous.
  • Knowledge of statistical and pattern recognition techniques is an added advantage.
  • Exposure to petrophysical evaluation methods such as basic and advanced log analysis, MICP, and saturation height functions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to conduct sensitivity analyses on modeling parameters and uncertainties, assessing their impact on resource evaluations.
  • Understanding of rock properties, fluid behavior, and geological modeling concepts.
  • Proficiency in log interpretation, core analysis, and dataset integration.
  • Ability to coach and mentor junior engineers and interns.
Qualifications
  • BSc in Petroleum Engineering, Geosciences, or Applied Physics.
  • Extensive knowledge of horizontal well logging technology and geo-steering techniques.
  • Experience with deterministic and probabilistic lithology petrophysical interpretation approaches.
  • Knowledge of routine and special core analysis programs and multidimensional data integration into reservoir models.
  • Understanding of geostatistics and experience assisting in geological and property model building.
  • Experience with wireline, LWD, coring, and core analysis contract administration is a plus.
  • Required software knowledge/experience: IP / Techlog / Geolog, Emeraude Kappa, Petrel/RMS (advantageous).
