Job description

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Welding Engineer to join our QA/QC team in overseeing welding operations for major shipyard construction projects. The ideal candidate will lead the development, qualification, and execution of welding procedures and ensure compliance with international standards and project specifications. This role is critical to maintaining welding quality, driving performance improvements, and supporting successful project delivery in a high-stakes environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor welding performance indicators including Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) metrics and report to management.
  • Serve as the focal point for welding quality assurance and NDE-related matters across the project lifecycle.
  • Develop and qualify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and welder qualifications per project requirements and applicable standards.
  • Support internal welding audits, repair rate analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Ensure full alignment with Quality Management Systems, international codes (AWS D1.1, ISO 15614, API 1104, ASME Sec IX), and client specifications.
  • Collaborate with construction, QA/QC, and client teams to address non-conformances, deficiencies, and deviations.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for recurring welding issues and implement sustainable improvements.
  • Support the creation of welding plans, maps, and documentation, ensuring traceability and compliance.
  • Review technical queries and provide expert metallurgical input to design and fabrication challenges.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical, Mechanical, or Welding Engineering.
  • 1012 years of welding engineering experience in Oil & Gas construction, with significant exposure to offshore/onshore structures and EPC projects.
  • Professional certifications such as IWE/EWE are required.
  • Additional certifications (preferred):
    • CSWIP 3.1 / 3.2.2
    • ASNT/PCN NDT Level II (RT, UT, PT, MT, AUT)
    • ASQ-CQI Lead Auditor (ISO 9001:2015)
Language

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.
  • Arabic language skills are a plus.
