Overview
mselect is looking to hire a Construction Supervisor (Mechanical and HVAC) for an oil and gas operator in Doha, Qatar. Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of relevant oil and gas industry experience in a similar role. Fluency in English is a must.
Responsibilities
- Acts as a safety leader, ensuring EPIC Contractor’s work complies with our client's Life Saving Rules and all safety and environmental regulations of our client and the State of Qatar.
- Liaise with the HSE team on safety related matters.
- Supervise and control site HVAC installation, testing and commissioning work on an oil and gas construction site.
- Lead mechanical completion walkdowns, punch item identification and close outs.
- Inspect construction works and materials in accordance with project quality plans and attend Inspection / Testing activities as per RFIs and approved inspection & test plans (ITPs).
- Supervise the EPIC Contractors during the execution of construction activities.
- Participate in reviewing design drawings, Method Statements, material requisitions, etc.
- Supervise and coordinate mobilization of contractors to site and as per schedule.
- Supervise and approve construction activities and coordinate various aspects of project construction including inspections (RFI’s), material approvals, checking validity of site working drawings and processing construction related documentation as required.
- Carry out daily checks on contractor’s staff and work executed to ensure compliance with prescribed contractual obligations and specifications.
- Report to direct Supervisor any work anomalies or contractual deviations committed by contractor personnel and recommend corrective actions.
- Review and endorse work permits on behalf of our client and ensure contractor compliance with Permit to Work Systems and Safety Policies and requirements.
- Participate in development of as-built drawings/documentation.
- Prepare Punch lists for finished work prior to hand over to our client.
- Work closely with our client's Construction Supervisors (Mech / Arch / Civil / Building / Electrical).
- Report to our client's Senior Construction Supervisor on main issues, events at site, progress reporting, trends, and recommendations for improvement.
- Accountable for supervising contractor’s work in progress, inspecting work, reporting problems, and preventing accidents by enforcing our client's safety standards on the work site.
- Liaise and report with the QA/QC Inspector on quality related matters.
- Coordinate with Discipline Construction Focal Point & Supervisor activities throughout the construction of multi-discipline projects, including chairing weekly construction progress meetings, site document control, and liaison with different discipline supervisors, senior project engineers and personnel of other departments.
- Review project planning and scheduling for construction during the construction phase, identify slippage, and assist in optimizing contractors' resources.
- Review construction method statements, job hazard analysis, quality procedures and commissioning/testing procedures relevant to HVAC.
- Review and endorse RLMU’s as-built drawings and construction dossiers.
- Coordinate with concerned parties to resolve routine site issues and refer technical queries to the senior construction supervisor.
- Update daily and weekly construction progress reports for assigned projects and verify contractors' progress statements for accuracy.
- Attend weekly progress meetings for assigned projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University.
- Preferably having formal training in QA/QC functional aspects.
- Candidate shall be a safety leader.
- 10 years in the design, procurement, installation and commissioning of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems in either infrastructure or oil & gas related projects.
- Experience in erection, testing and air balancing of ducted HVAC systems.
- Conversant with International Codes, Standards and Specifications, including SMACNA, ASHRAE & NFPA.
- Experience as an EPIC Contractor supervisor is essential. Experience as a Client or PMC supervisor is desirable.
- Ability to work within a diverse cultural environment.
- Good command of English (oral & written).
- Knowledge of Industry engineering standards and QSHE awareness.
- Good supervisory, planning and co-ordination skills.
- Good communication and report writing skills.
- Understanding experience of interfacing with civil, building and electrical trades during erection and testing of HVAC systems.
- Experience in Stage Inspection and Testing of Construction activities as per approved ITPs.
- Proficient knowledge of computer software (MS Office, Outlook, Excel, Words, PDF, Power Point, etc) and engineering software applications relevant to the discipline.
